This year's start in conference play is nothing new. Here are the conference results after six games the last ten seasons. Only once have we had a winning record after the first six games and five of the last ten years we have started conference play 1-5.

2010-2011: 1-5
2009-2010: 2-4
2008-2009: 1-5
2007-2008: 3-3
2006-2007: 2-4
2005-2006: 3-3
2004-2005: 1-5
2003-2004: 4-2
2002-2003: 1-5
2001-2002: 1-5

All this tells us is what we already knew... we've pretty much sucked for 10 years.

Kind of glad you posted that, because I wondered a little while ago, "I wonder how bad ISU's January record is over the past decade."

I guessed fewer than 25 wins — which, if you add a game or two to those totals, is probably about right.

I am not a McDermott fan by any means but our only two .500 starts came under him and our only winning record after six games came under Wayne Morgan. What this tells me more than anything is we need some long term coaching stability in the program. In the last ten seasons we have had four different head coaches. That is not a recipe for success.

I agree on the need for stability, but you might want to look again (just at the specifics) as to how you drew the conclusion:
Greg had one .500 start, Morgan had a 3-3 and 4-2 (as well as an awful beginning where we rallied to the NCAAs for our most recent appearance).

Greg only had a .500 in his 1st year. Either way, though, 4 head coaches in 10 years doesn't help our cause, and we have some really bad conference starts. It's time for that tradition to end.
