I was thinking about the ISU coaches I've watched, which lead me to Wiki. Much to my delight, Wiki has a section on "versus other Iowa schools".

Our most common in-state opponent is Drake, against whom ISU has compiled a 108-65 record (as of December, 2015). Our second most frequent opponent is Iowa. It was the #3 most frequent in-state opponent that surprised me! We've played 50 games against UNI, but we've played somebody else 52 times, compiling a 32-20 all-time record. Anybody care to venture a guess (without checking Wikipedia)?

My guess would be Coe because something about that sounds familiar.

Edit: After checking, would have never guessed the real answer, but Coe is #6 from what I see.

If any of you used to go to the old Emil's Deli in downtown CR, Emil was a big Hawk fan but a super nice guy. He had a photo up that grabbed my attention. It was of Iowa playing a ROAD basketball game at Luther. Times, they have changed.

Winner winner chicken dinner in best SVP voice!

Hard to believe we've played Grinnell more than UNI, but I guess the proximity made it easy back in the old days.

I wonder what made the series end? :)

I think ISU dropped it because it was a lose, lose game.

Does Grinnell still play the type of game they did a few years ago when Taylor scored over 100 points a couple of times? I never got to see them play then, but I assume it was absolutely no defense, combined with a barrage of three-pointers. That would make for an interesting match-up. :v_SPIN:

The Delaware County Historical Society maintains a former small college campus in Hopkinton, IA; the school opened just prior to the Civil War (Bowen Collegiate Institute) and closed during WW2 (Lennox College). I drove past it a dozen times before I finally stopped and took a guided tour, the highlight of which was noting a photo in the trophy case showing that Lenox beat the State University of Iowa in football in 1903!

For any of you history buffs, this is a must-see Iowa site. There's an obelisk in the courtyard memorializing students and faculty who served in the Civil War; the college President gave a speech and nearly the entire male student body enlisted as "90 day volunteers", many of whom never returned. It's a very cool story that I've never seen in written history books...
