Kirk Ferentz Record at Iowa

2005 7-5
2006 6-7
2007 6-6

Thats a record of 18-18 over the past three years. Football is about what have you done for me lately. Is that worth $3 million a year? And does next year look a lot better for them? Add to that the off field behavior and this begins to look bleak.

It's good work if you can get it.

The state's highest paid employee and he fails half the time....sounds about right.

Not that is matters, but I add that record to be 19-18

Come on now, the math looks like the record is 19-18 which is a winning record!

Did he say he would leave if they didnt pay him that or does Iowa pay him that because they can?

if you want to keep your coach from leaving your crappy program to go coach in the NFL, then i say yes. but how much does he spend on gum a year? your probably looking at 1.3 million give or take. so it averages out to a more reasonable amount in the end.

Can you say refund?

I look at it this way.

At the time of the extension, Iowa was coming off of 3 consecutive top 10 finishes, 3 straight January bowl games, 2 Big Ten titles in 3 years, and showed no signs of slowing down. The NFL was calling, and programs such as Florida, Nebraska, Texas AM had been expressing interest.

Right now, it looks like it was a bad move. However, had the extension not been made, it's likely he would have gone somewhere else. There were a lot of lucrative offers on the table. Not to mention, he did a lot for the U of I, and there is no reason why they shouldn't have done anything/everything to show their appreciation.

That being said, right now things are looking down. Something needs to change. IMO, KF will be taking a chance if he keeps his staff in tact. I fully believe that if KOK is still around after this season, and Reece Morgan (O-Line coach) hasn't been let go, then everything that happens in the next few seasons falls on Ferentz's shoulder.

It's been 3 years now since an 8+ win season, and for the money being made, that isn't acceptable. I don't have a problem with the amount, considering the fact that Iowa is completely self-sustaining. My problem is that money like that is symbolic of success and expectations, and if both are low, then that is a big problem.

From the DSM Rag, "“Absolutely I expect Kirk to be our coach next season,â€￾ Barta said"

...In related news, the University of New Mexico put out a release stating the Steve Alford had also taken his name out of the running for the Michigan job, and has received a raise....

Captain is obviously being picked upon. It does not look that bright in 08. That is about $500k per win.

At this point it does seem that Kirk is overrated... however, I can't really point the finger at Kirk for ALL the off the field problems.

We are talking about college kids... They make mistakes... I made one when I was in college, but luckily, since I wasn't on the Football or Basketball team it didn't make front page news...

Just be careful how hard you are on the "program" for off the field indiscretions... They may come our way next.

I think there was a lot of speculation by various sportswriters about potential jobs for KF, but I don't think there was nearly as much actual interest as everyone thought. Did he really have lots of offers to choose from? I'm not sure I buy that, especially Nebraska since Callahan's first year was 2004, which was the last year of Iowa's little run of greatness. I think it was more likely that Iowa overreacted to the rumors and threw a bunch of money at KF. I certainly can't blame them for locking him up based on the results of those years, but the amount of money was a bit rediculous.

I hope KF STAYS at Iowa City! Based upon last 3 years he has earned his 3 mil/year. Who better to lead the program to Medicority. Besides he has made a 1 mil contribution to the Johnson County Jail for a "Suckeye Wing".

Not to burst anyone's bubble but we paid Chizik around $375,000 per win...

Chizik's first year.........Captain Kirk has been here how long??????? Big difference..
If Chizik's is still at that ratio 3-4 years from now, then that argument can be used.

It's funny that Ferentz has been paid $473,684 / win and the coach that just got done shaming the hawks on their own turf is only being paid $178,000 per year. He could go winless for 2 3/4 seasons before his next win and get paid the same amount per win.....
