Is Iowa State still a contender? ($$$)

We're not a contender to win the big 12 tittle, but anything can happen in March if we get hot.

I agree with BDK. What's the point of posting a link to something that you can't read unless you are a subscriber? And even more dumb to post what is in the link.

I assumed some other CF people would be an Insider subscriber and eventually other people would post the link asking for a summary. I included the $$$ in the title for a reason. My bad.

I am a subscriber and enjoyed the link. I wouldn't have read this article otherwise. These other guys need to stop being so cheap or just leave the thread.

The article is spot on. I just hope the players realize they have to PUT IN THE WORK and PLAY HARD to reach their potential.

Good link, would have missed it otherwise. BDK is just acting like the child he is.

In summary (for those of you who don't have ESPN Insider):

Fran Fraschilla thinks we are in a slump lately but we can come out of it and be really good if the chemistry mixes and we play good defense.

ESPN Insider. Not a whole lot of new information. They talked about how we need to improve defense, how the media may have inflated some egos, and how our players are still figuring out roles. I thought it was interesting that they didn't even mention BDJ's name until the last paragraph.

They touched on rebounding, which is a big problem. We're not going to be one of the better rebounding teams around, but losing a lot of rebound due to not blocking out is unacceptable.

They touched on defense which is also a big problem. While our one on one defense has shown some improvement, we are a mess once things start to break down. We don't even look like we practice rotational defense as nobody ever seems quite sure where they should go. The inability to anticipate and fight through screens is also a problem. Unfortunately that often necessitates a switch/rotation and starts the scrambling madness.

One thing they didn't mention is shot selection. Aside from getting away from Niang operating out of the post that is our biggest problem. When you allow sub 33% 3 point shooters to bomb away with complete disregard, you are going to have a lot of issues. Moreover our team, fans, and likely our coach need to come to the realization we are not a good 3 point shooting team to begin with. As is we have 3 players with respectable percentages. Of those 3 Long is the only one who should be a consistent perimeter threat. Niang is better out of the post, and part of our rebounding issues stem from he and Hogue spending too much time out at the line. Yes the defense was poor, but we lost the Tech game because our players and coach don't know when to stop shooting 3s. When you go 6-31 versus 21-31 it's pretty obvious what you did wrong.

Currently Hoiberg is a good coach whose done great things for his program. Does he want to be a great one? If so he needs to start addressing some of the problems above. The talent is there to make a Final 4 run, but we likely don't stand a chance if we don't quit being our own worst enemy.

Why would I pay the $9 a month to get "inside" info.

I'd pay $9 a month to keep your trap shut. As it is, I took you off of /ignore for all of two days before you landed right back on it. Thanks, CF, for implementing that feature for free!

If the thread title included an espninsider reference that may be viable.
$$$ is not enough to know that it is premium info? You can also hover over a thread title before you click on it, and this one did indeed say it was ESPN Insider info.
