Memorial day was great, we ate, we drank and most of all we celebrated 'Merica.

Unfortunatly, we had a bit of a misshap with an Iphone. The phone is in a rubber bumper case and fell about three feet onto the sidewalk. Shattered. :realmad:

1. I know this isn't a warrenty issues (it's out of warrenty anyway)
2. Not eligible to upgrade until November.
3. It's shattered, still works but it's beyond just cracked (Can't really just live with it until November)

Anyone been down this path? We are going to the Genius bar tonight but just wondering what sort of hit my wallet is in for.

50$ for a new glass screen, see previous thread on subject. There are stores that fix this.

Get one of those screen protector (adhesive film) covers for your phone until you can get it fixed. It is much better than fishing glass slivers out of your fingers.

It will also help to hold the shattered screen together so it doesn't fall entirely apart and start shedding pieces.

I don't do phone warranties. Total rip off. Send it here. They did my glass for $35 or so and sent it back next day mail. I only was without a phone for 2-3 days.

Our local mall (Burnsville, MN) has a kiosk that will fix them for $50 on the spot. I'm not recommending that you drive up here, but I would think they arent the only one.

Also, put a screen protector on the new screen after you get it fixed. They are far less likely to shatter on impact with one on.

It's unbelievable to me how many people I personally know who have shattered their iPhone screens. It's almost inevitable.

I have never liked the screen protectors. I can't ever get rid of all the tiny bubbles and that annoys me. We are going to the apple store tonight to see if/what they can do. I have had great luck at the genius bar in the past. (dropped my first iphone in a mug of water, apple guy looked it over, said there was a hairline crack in the back case and replaced it free of charge.) I'm sure it's just all about who is working and how good of a mood are they in that night.

I have been told for iPod touches, you get one free screen replacement at the apple store based on the serial number. But I don't know if that is the same for iPhones.

I got a ginormous Otterbox (whatever the really protective one is, I don't know), because I drop my phone at least once a week. It's so far kept the iPhone in good condition.

Well I called apple service today and gave them my serial number. $149, they take this phone and we get a new referb.

I'm really tempted to order the replacement part from this site and do it myself. I've checked out a few videos on youtube and it doesn't seem terribly difficult.

I can't seem to find a lot of line about this site and a little leery of pulling the trigger. Anyone else heard of this site?

Iowa iPhone iPod Touch Repair by AnkenyFixIt

Dude works out of his house, but is good, prompt, courteous and professional. Fixed my daughter's Ipad screen. This way you know where you iphone is and not mailed someplace across the country. Prices/rates are on the website and you can book an appointment there as well. Highly recommended.

Haha, I am in the same boat... I have had terrible luck with phones, so I got a Casio G'zOne... Just a brick of a phone, but it hasn't broken.

Well I should have trusted my instincts about this website... www.wickedtronics.com. To the guy who recommended them earlier in the thread, thanks for the help but I would not tell anyone else about these scammers...

Cleary I didn't feel super comfortable, but after doing some research and finding they have a reputible ebay rating, an amazon account with good reviews, etc I decided it was okay to place the order.

I placed my order shortly after that last post on the 29th. I hadn't gotten anything beyond the "Order reciept" email immediatly after placing the order. I sent them an email on the 1st and recieved a prompt reply with the USPS tracking number. All seemed well...

Then I checked the tracking number again on monday of this week, it states that the USPS has recieved the electronic shipping notice but have not recieved or sent the order. So, I emailed the company again, no response. I have checked the tracking number everyday since and there has been no change. I have sent three emails since and gotten no respose, called their toll free number today and it goes to a generic voicemail. I feel that I was had.... I assume my CC company can dispute the transaction but it still pisses me off!

Anyone had luck using wickedtronics.com?

This ankenyfixit.com dude seems legit. 89.95 +tax to replace the glass in about an hour... sure wish I would have seen that before spending $70 on just the parts...

I called and talked to Chad (owner and tech) for ankenyfixit.com. He sounds like a legit, home based business. $89.95+tax to replace the front glass in about an hour. The lady friend wants her phone to be all while (currently black now) and that is going to cost an additional $15 for the white backglass and home button.

I set an apt for tomorrow at 3pm. I'll let you guys know how it turns out!

On a side note, after typing my rant about the other site, I just got an email response from my Monday morning email. They apologized and said that the parts are on back order until next week. They asked if I would like to cancel my order, DUH! Now let's see how long it takes to get my money back...
