I didn't get to listen to Jon today because, well, I was busy. From what I can tell, he spent a good amount time making fun of ISU fans. Why would he do this? Simple. People in radio do not care why people listen, as long as they listen. Listeners=money. Period. He knows ISU fans will probably never really trust him, he is first and foremost a hawk. Now, I am also guessing he had a condescending attitude towards ISU during the broadcast? Why would this be?

The answer to this is pretty simple. Jon recognizes a threat when he sees it. ISU is not the little brother anymore, and he knows this. Look around, you see way more ISU gear than you used to, especially on young people. The summer tailgate events are a blast and such a wonderful idea. The Waterloo one was a lot of fun last night. Pollard has done a great job of expanding the brand. More and more people are associating themselves with ISU, including many more members of the Cyclone Club. Meanwhile, Barta has done what exactly?

ISU is better than Iowa in pretty much every sport other than wrestling, and Cael is working hard at that. Sorry hawks, this is not the 80's. The Big Ten sucked in both basketball and football last year. What makes anybody think Iowa is going to be any better this year in football? What has changed? I don't remember the past Iowa football recruiting classes being anything special, and Iowa is going to run vanilla offense and no blitz defense again, and I assume the same QB is going to start. Good luck with that one.

Meanwhile, ISU is in its second year under a new coach, and people are excited. I personally can't wait for the season to start. I also can't wait for us to put more emphasis on Big 12 matters and care less about the hawks. Making noise in the state is one thing and might get you some attention in the Register, making noise in conference will get you national attention. That is where our focus should be.

Remember, he is a completely unbiased source. He did pick Iowa to win the Big 10 the past two seasons, and they almost did. Right?

Joefrog, You are right. But they would never admit to it. But I'd bet a lot they talk about it amonst themselves.

Any level headed hawk fan would say that Chizik has potential and could do some great things. Most are happy with theirs, but they would take Cael or McD if the situations presented themselves for whatever reason. Fennely, well, no contest. And JP, he scares them so much they cry foul when he wakes up in the morning.

Take Cael over Brands? No. Take GMac over Lickliter? No.

But Chizik does have potential - most people agree with that.

Just curious what's prompting all the smack talk all of sudden? Jon's been fairly respectful when I see his posts?

Jon did quite the segment this afternoon, and quoted several posters here at CF. Some people didn't like it.

I sincerely believe you will have changed your mind on this one in about 5 years. The others...maybe, maybe not.
No offense - but I highly doubt it. Brands already has one national title, and shows no signs of letting up. Next year's squad should be just as good as this year's was.

And again, no offense, but there is nothing GMac has done that Lickliter hasn't. And until Chizik goes to a BCS game, I also don't think I'd take him over KF given the chance.

I'm not saying that ISU fans would trade any of their coaches, but there is no reason Iowa fans would either.

If the situations presented themselves for whatever reason. I have no reason to believe either would ever, but say one get caught drinking with coeds, Ahem, or something terrible like vehicular manslaughter. Highly unlikely anything of that magnatude would happen, but if it did their fans would be happy with either of their counterparts as their "new" coach. And therin lies the reasoning.

"Its no so much little brother anymore. Its big brother has grown up, and hes a Man. And at this point, maybe he's got things going on a little better than I do. We haven't seen it yet, but I don't like how he is lining himself to pass me by."

Possibly. Chizik - maybe. But I dunno about McDermott. I've never been extremely sold on him (probably like how some ISU fans aren't sold on Lick)

Trends... Well obviously the trends have been pretty good for ISU over the last 20 and the other way for Iowa(with the exception of the 4 year New Years Bowl Stretch Kirk put together.)

Lick vs. McDemott. Pretty similar coaches, but I'd argue Greg did more making success at UNI where it's really hard to win particuarly playing in the old dome. Also ISU has had a better basketball reputation.

Brandt vs. Sanderson. Are you kidding me. Brandt's a loose cannon and I get nervous every times he talks and I'm not an Iowa fan! Sooner or later he will say or do something very embarrassing for the University.

the first is still up for debate.

the second is full of ********. every hawk fan and any AD would have taken GM over TL if both were available.. throw in that UNI and Iowa are in the same state.. not even close....

third is up for debate.

Good point SH. I think both fanbases are happy with the coaches they have right now. But if I had to trade coaches in any sport, I'd take Lickliter. I've heard a lot of good things about him and think he's going to make Iowa basketball matter again.

I don't think so... Mac may have a slight edge in state, but Nationwide I think Lick was a better get. He has not only won, he has done it late in the year and in the post season, something Mac hasn't done... As far as the Wrestling coaches, I don't have an opinion either way, but more importantly, we have a huge edge with Fennely and Women's Basketball...

I did not mean this to become a coaching comparison thread. Thanks SH. Just trying to point out that the personnel ISU has is just one reason hawks fans are a little uneasy about what is going on in Ames.

I don't think Iowa fans are uneasy. Uneasy implies that ISU becoming competitive is recent. ISU has been at least decent in basketball and wrestling for quite some time now.

Football wise, I think Iowa fans can still expect more than what they've been getting, both in the rivalry and nationally. But this argument has been re-hashed so many times in the last few days, I really don't want to get into it.

I guess if I was forced to trade a coach, I'd probably pick Cael. 100% certain that Iowa would maintain success in wrestling with that one. It would be hard to trade other coaches, basically because both Chizik and Mac are both relatively unproven.

You don't have to explain to me. I said from the beginning they would never admit it.
