Iowa announces Scott Brickman, former COO of Swarm collective, as ASP General Manager of NIL/Strategy & Operations.

I have a feeling JP is going to be super resistant about this side of things, and it won't end great, because we "do things the right way" or some moralistic bull sh*t.

I agree, but it's gotta be a fine line to walk. On one hand you don't want to be left behind. On the other couldn't the NCAA penalize schools for bending the rules? (I know, I know, the NCAA is nearly toothless now)

Iowa doesn't seem too worried about stuff like this or taking money from casinos. We should we be?

You think schools are doing this without knowing that it is ok to do?

Can the university sponsor that position? That’s like they are paying the players directly themselves
True, though let's not kid ourselves. It's not like the NIL collectives just randomly throw out money to certain players. There's obvious communication between the school and the collective to let them know who they want to be targeting, and who the priority guys are.

I'm hoping and guessing at the same time that having a guy that used to work for Swarm will help steer some of the donations the AD used to get into the NIL. Seems like Beth is totally all in on Swarm and NIL at this point.

This isn't the University hiring this guy directly for their department, its Altius Sports Partners whos employing him. The school has a relationship with ASP just like KU and other collectives have deals with ASP or Blueprint Sports in terms of running NIL collectives. I will say that its only a matter of time before these collectives dissolve into athletic departments or become apart of Learfield for example in the future.

The NCAA isn't doing ****. They're terrified of every lawsuit that makes them even more irrelevant than they are now.

You either adapt to the current world and play the game or you die.

The days of Iowa and Iowa State being on a level playing field are going away quickly I am afraid. We are positioned to become to them what UNI and Drake have been to us for decades.

He will, but Campbell will push for it. While CMC would hate it, he knows how far behind it would leave us if we were slow on it
