Colts hire Larry Coyer as defensive coordinator

One day after parting ways with defensive coordinator Ron Meeks, the Indianapolis Colts are closing in on hiring his replacement.
WISH-TV has learned tonight that Larry Coyer will be the team's choice.
Coyer has most recently been the assistant head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, following a successful run as the Defensive Coordinator of the Denver Broncos.
Denver ranked in the top 4 defenses in yards per game allowed under Coyer in 2003 and 2004.
In addition, the Broncos ranked 6th in scoring defense during his four years as defensive coordinator.
Coyer has 44 years of coaching experience in both college and the pros. His college coaching career, includes stops at Ohio State, Iowa, Pitt, and UCLA among others.

Again a source has it wrong it was ISU he coached at.

We are in the "among others" Coyer coach at the University of Iowa as well.

Coyer was the defensive coordinator in 1993 at East Carolina University, where under his guidance the Pirates improved in virtually every defensive category. He also served as defensive backs coach at Ohio State (1991-92), assistant head coach/defensive backs coach at the University of Houston (1990) and linebackers coach at UCLA (1987-89). Before his stint in the USFL, Coyer was defensive coordinator at Iowa State (1979-82), Oklahoma State University (1978) and the University of Iowa (1974-77) after serving as defensive backs coach at Bowling Green (1968-73).
