INSTANT REACTION PODCAST: Iowa 18, Iowa State 17

Most everyone else has my negative thoughts covered.. aka stupid mistakes. So on the positive side I don't remember many games against ranked teams where we win the yardage battle and seemingly beat ourselves vs the ranked team winning. Used to being the team that wins because the other team lost it. Iowa's not bad and we are better than teams of the past. Just trust the process and let that this team keep pounding the stone.

The loss is a kick in the nuts and statistically we should have won. We ****** up with mistakes, these will be corrected. **** the Hawks!

3rd and 22
Perfection and being good enough aren’t synonymous. Sure, in any loss you could make a blanket statement that every single facet and player wasn’t good enough. Seems rather simpleton.

This falls on the coaches, namely ST and offense. If they insist on playing ball-control, they need to actually be ball-control.

Enyi got a good pass rush on that play. Iowa OL had to hold him so that Stanley could make that throw.

On Stanley’s bootleg from around the 14, Lima broke through and an Olineman literally tackled him to the ground. Nothing called. There was also something odd with either the Iowa guard or tackle, several times they would twist or rock in their stance right before the snap. Not sure what was happening, we didn’t get called for offsides so it wasn’t a deal.

ISU made some mistakes, especially on the 3rd and 22, but there were several opportunities to pick Stanley off and ISU was just not in the right place or dropped the ball. Sometimes you are just plain lucky, and Stanley definitely was. Heck his first pass was in inches of being a pick 6.

Was that holding call on 4th down legit? Or did the refs save iowa with a ticky tacky interjection?
I've not seen an angle on it. For the few moments when we thought we had the 1st down via the PI, I of course thought "Iowa fans will say the refs bailed us out". Then you see the PI and it was the clearest ever....but then by the time I was done rejoicing, the ref said "there are two penalities" :-(
