Indy 500 2016

I have been twice. Its an awesome even to go attend.

I felt the exact opposite. I was bored beyond belief. There is minimal passing and you can see so little of the race. The track just isn't made for Nascar.

Edit. I'm an idiot. Move along.

NASCAR? We arent talking about the Brickyard 400 here. IndyCar son. Indy 500 thread title!

Minimal passing? You haven't watched in a while have you? I would say yeah since you had NASCAR and IndyCar confused. But just 2 years ago in the 200 lap race there were 67 official lead changes at the line, not to mention all the other unofficial ones. I'd say that is plenty.

From the people I have talked to that will be in attendance today, there were clouds this morning that have cleared out. Sunny and warm there now.

Weather dot com has a chance for a pop up thunder shower at 2 est, but everything else looks good. Hopefully the rain stays away, but if they do get some hopefully they can get it dry and get the scheduled distance in.

They are expecting over 350,000 to be in attendance today. They mentioned on Carb Day broadcast that they had to stop selling general admission infield ticlets.

Well, this is awkward. Nothing to see here. Move along! But since I'm here, Brickyard sucks!

But there is something to see. The greatest Spectacle in Racing the Indianapolis 500! Flip on ABC and just look at that turnout. And we haven't even had driver intro's or the singing of Back Home Again in Indiana yet. Always room for a new Indy Car fan and with what Indy Car has been doing the last 4-5 years it is an exciting series

I seen a story on ESPN or something that the people that live in that neighborhood would rent out their yards for parking at at $50 per car clip with many people parking in the same yard for decades. I'd say pretty generous for an area with minimal parking for 350,000 people.

Was cool to see an American rookie win. Don't know that I've seen the Victor ever have to be towed to victory lane.
Rossi is a good driver but most Americans have no idea who he is because he took off to Europe when he was a teenager to chase an F1 ride. He was second in GP2 last year to McLarens back-up driver and even raced in F1 for 5 races. He lost his F1 ride this year because the Indonesian government backed up an armored truck to his F1 team to buy a seat for Rio Haryanto. Apparently though they only paid for 11 races so there is a good chance that Rossi will be back in F1 towards the end of the year.

I don't keep close track on Indy car racing, so I'm not familiar with the engines. The order of finish page that I found showed logos for chevy, honda, and one other that looked vaguely like a honda logo and was also the logo for the winner. I tried to google, but could fine nothing referring to the engines.

Who is engine mfg.?

Chevy and Honda are the engine manufacturers in Indycar.

We talked Bone and Opie into going with. Piled into the New Yorker and drove all night. We parked in some big grass lot close to the track, heated up some spagettios on the grill and did our best to keep the Budweiser employees jobs secure. We got infield tickets for around $10-15 and carried in our cooler and ended up in Snake alley. I bought a cheap Indy flag on a stick and everytime a girl flashed us, I waved the flag and declared her the winner. Technically, I didn't see the race, but did see one of the race cars being towed. After the race we went back to the field of cars for a much needed siesta. We were rudely awoken by a tow trucks horn blast and the warning we were next. There was no longer 1000+ cars, it was us and 2 others. We made it back to Champaign, Ill and crashed at an old roomates house. My dad, still has the Indy flag hanging in his shop and I smile everytime I see it, someday I may tell him the story behind it.

I thought the new American Haas F1 team would give him a ride but they didnt. I think Rossi is the only American that has an F1 Super License, unless someone else has gotten theirs recently. I doubt tho that he gives up a seat at Andretti Autosport for just any F1 ride.

You're right he's the only American with a Super License right now and all the guys that were close (Daly, Newgarden and there's one other one) are in Indycar right now. Now that he's an Indy 500 winner I could see him getting a shot at a mid-pack F1 team next year. The guy who took his F1 ride has apparently only paid up for 11 races and it trying some text messaging scheme to raise the money to stay in the car longer.

What I think happens is you'll see Rossi back in the Manor at any race the doesn't conflict with Indy car after the F1 summer break so he'll get 5 or 6 races again this year but instead of some chump on his team he'll get the chance to prove himself against Mercedes chosen one Pascal Wehlien. Next year it'll be interesting to see what happens though, I'm not sure if I was him that I'd give up a seat with Andretti to go to a backmarker like Manor or Sauber. Haas may have an opening though if they decide that Gutiérrez isn't worth the hassle or of Grosjean takes Kimis seat at Ferrari and that would be pretty tempting all the way around.
