If Fred is successful coaching in the NBA, will that help ISU basketball?

Seems like it could be a good thing.

Without looking it up, where did Phil Jackson go to college? Greg Popovich? I doubt it will have any effect whatsoever

I will say yes if someone connected with Fred is still on staff. Certainly doesn't hurt to have to ISU alums as NBA coaches.

Where did Tim Floyd coach? Everybody knows it was ISU.

His successes won't reflect on us, but his failures will. Plus I don't want him coming back to coach at the collegiate levels unless it's here.

It won't change anything if he's successful, but it will come back a bit if he fails. That also depends on to what degree does he fail (as in, does he spiral the entire organization to garbage in 3 or 4 years, or does he hold a .650+ win percentage and still get canned for not providing a ring to the FO).

I think it may help if he is successful, if he continues to be an ambassador for ISU. If he still talks about following the team, going to games or coming back to Ames I think Chicago area recruits would be more likely to come. Could be wrong.

I say yes with the notion that Fred will continue to be a Leader for ISU even while coaching the Bulls. If he stays a fan, then Yes. If he just moves on without care, and doesnt ever think or mention ISU again then No, probably not. Im certain if the Bulls make the Finals next year we will hear about Hoiberg from ISU just as much as Niang playing against Nerlens in High School.

Point taken but those two are different circumstances. Fred came from college to coach, Phil and Pops are NBA lifers. Announcers will call him "The Mayor" during every...single...telecast. Chances are they'll say it's because he received write-in votes for the Ames Mayoral election. I promise you that Fred will Tweet after a big ISU win or when a milestone is reached from one of "his" players.

Seems like we're kind of grasping at straws here as to why we should be happy he left.

Well, I'm for sure grasping. Just trying to spin it. He has kids that will be in the AAU circuit. He will be attending those tournaments I'm sure as they get older. Does he toss out how great ISU is to potential recruits?

I don't know. Just hoping for the best I guess since he's on to something else.
