Idea for the Spring Game

I don't know if Iowa State would allow this. I don't even know if its feasible otherwise. But here goes.

Would it be possible for some of the Cyclone fanatics to take a video camera with them into the stadium and film the game? Maybe we could organize it so that someone focuses on the lines, someone focuses on the backs, someone on the receivers, and so on for the rest of the team.

Then they could edit the tape down to the highlights and maybe post them on YouTube or somewhere else. That way all of us armchair coaches could take our turn at breaking down the film to see if we agree with the depth chart at the end of spring ball.

In full disclosure, I have to admit that I don't own a video camera and I may not make it to the spring game. This would be a lot of work and I wouldn't blame anyone for not wanting to do it. But it sure would be interesting.

What do you guys think?

I know it's OK to take pictures. I'm pretty sure you can video as well. I don't think there would be any issues in posting this as your own video on YouTube.

I'm not an expert though.

Why would we want tape of our spring game floating around so everyone can see what we are trying to do. That's part of the game plan is people not knowing what to expect right off the bat...

I was thinking the same thing. However, last year I remember seeing on some of the billions of cable channels that they had things like the Penn State spring game, and I think even the Texas spring game.

coaches really dont show their plays during spring games, because alot of times there are scouts watching the game for other teams, so thats why u see alot of tosses and a few passes and thats about it.. it would be cool to get it on fild overal.. but i dont have a camera that i can use

I think by the time big12 season rolls around teams have a pretty good idea what our strengths and weaknesses will be. Also, you can bet that there will be plenty of opponent scouts at our spring game, at least from the first few teams we play this season. Teams will do this for high school, you don't think they are doing it for bigtime college football?

or we could just get a ton of students in the stands and show the staff and other people across the state our passion and re newed hope for ISU football!

Maybe we could send it via PM or email to people from CF? That's my thought, and as someone already stated, they generally only show formations and things of general nature in the spring game.

As an amateur video editor, I can attest that you're asking for alot. (Especially if you want different position videos, etc.) I may be interested in just shooting the entire game (or parts of it) and posting that, but I can't do a scrutinized, scout-like video.

In the meantime, if someone could find out for sure if video cameras are permissable, that would save me the hassle of dragging mine (along with a tri-pod) to the game for no reason.

I know last year cameras and camcorders were allowed. We had our camera and we were sitting next to Catlett's parents - they had a camcorder.

As far as making a video and posting it online, I'm not so much a fan of that.

Why not? Entire spring games of other colleges are broadcasted on ESPN sometimes... Why not on CF / Youtube ?

I think we should all go see it live and leave the cameras at home or at least not publish the video for the whole world to see. Even though the spring game playbook will be quite "vanilla," why do a scouting report for our competitors?

Well, as others have noted - we have one thing going for us this season for sure - element of surprise/unknown.

I'd rather not make it easy for our 2007 opponents to see what we're going to look like this fall. Call it ultra-conservative - that's fine.

Personally, I wouldn't have been against not having an spring game just for this season. Keep things under a lock and key in that first year.

Doesn't upset me that we're having one - just giving another example of where I'm coming from.

Texas and Oklahoma have their entire spring game on ESPN. Why not just get the game on national TV.

This is true, several years ago, some friends an I were lounging in the end zone seats during a spring game, and two guys were in front of us, with NU Football Binders. They weren't dressed in Nebraska colors, but we gave them alot of heat, and I don't think they concentrated real well.

just got this email...

Chris,

Video cameras are not allowed in Jack Trice Stadium for our football games. This includes the spring scrimmage.

Thanks for checking. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Yet cameras are allowed. Many cameras today have the ability to capture video.

Plus, I saw more than one parent with camcorders at last year's spring game. It may be policy, yet they're not enforcing it for the spring game apparently.

Plus, it's a rather tough policy to enforce anyways.
