The cold snap seems to be finally coming. Any guesses on when first ice is going to be here?

I think by Sunday there will be a few small ponds with enough ice to fish on. Can't wait.

Always looking for new places to fish around central Iowa. Last year sucked with not that long of good ice available. I try Big Creek every year and every year it fails. Seems like you need to know the farm ponds to have a lot of luck around central Iowa.

Yea, i tried BC a few times...didnt mark anything. I live in Grimes, so i'm sure ill be trying again. I hear Brushy Creek produces..but i dont know my way around it. There are a few retention ponds ill try with early ice.

Bringing this back up since we have finally had cold weather to freeze stuff up. Has anyone made it out much yet? With the warmer weather coming this weekend was thinking of heading out.

I have a new hut I'm dying to try out. Unfortunately will be out of town this weekend. Heard there is at least 8" most places.

ive tried a few small retention ponds last few weeks with 4-6 inches. I am going to big creek this weekend with a few buddies, hope to ice a few.

Heading out this weekend as well to some local ponds. Have heard reports of 8" of ice on some ponds here in S Iowa, good luck to everyone. Need to get some wax worms I guess.

I just got back from NE South Dakota ice fishing over the weekend and the bite was slow due to the cold front. -25 in the mornings made moving around really hard. I think I am going to try some ponds this weekend around central Iowa.

And now everyone knows where you live. I've even driven by a few times and didn't know it.
