... and I still cannot believe how throughly Iowa blew that game. It was right there for the taking and they screwed the pooch big time.

Better coaching and the Hawkeyes win that game.... period. Iowa overall played much better than ISU did, the announcers basically said as much. Iowa moved the ball pretty well on them for most of the game.

There were just a few plays that did them in. Penalties (surprise surprise) killed a couple drives. Then on another drive, JC scrambled for a first down and the ref gave them a terrible mark one yard short of the 1st down, and it wasn't even close, but Ferentz didn't have them check the replay for whatever reason? Making a LB cover a WR is just stupid. And then of course, all the sacks... can't hardly blame JC for everything.... terrible OL play, not to mention at least one snap was VERY bad.

But.... good decisions by the coaching staff would have won that game for Iowa. Go back and watch it for yourself. Iowa outplayed ISU for most of that game, and a good coaching staff would have found a way to win it IMO.

Oh... And if this was on the front page I guarantee there would be 30 replies by now...At least.

Yeah, I'm a little bummed (my own fault for keepin 'er in the ISR forum, I guess); that would have been fun - and funny, most likely. Oh well.

Gah. 39+ days sucks.

shada held blythe like crazy in the endzone on ISUs 2nd scoring drive IIRC....coulda been 7 points but wasnt called. in the 2nd half blythe got held agin and myer overthrew deep and it wasnt called. those 2 plays blow that game wide open if not for holding.

iowa dominated the lines in the 2nd half but got their tails kicked all 1st half. i have that game on dvd and have watched it multiple times. iowa had little room to run the 1st half.

ha as far as i know iowa state moved the ball pretty good also hitting 5 field goals and missing 1. that means we were inside or around the 30 yard line 6 times. same could be said last year in iowa city we were inside the 30 yard line 6 times came up with 3 points better coaching wins us that game. better coaching would have put us in the endzone in 07. your an idiot.

The original post was largely tongue-in-cheek.

However, if you wish to take it seriously, two factors significantly contributed to ISU's scoring opportunities .... poor punting by a FR punter and Iowa's DL losing contain too much of Meyer in the first half. Also, might I add, that it didn't help that Iowa's depth on the DL was all that good at that point in the season ... so depth issues also contributed to some of the success that Bass had running the ball in that game.

Anyhow, back to the original post being tongue-in-cheek ... Iowa's O was absolutely atrocious in that game. The Iowa O didn't move the ball AT ALL in the first half.
