I didn't survive Bear Grylls

I tried watching "I Survived Bear Grylls" last night for the first time and I only lasted 10 minutes before I switched channels in disgust. Grylls has finally succeeded in turning the survival genre of reality TV into a clown circus. It was just totally unwatchable. I've enjoyed other Grylls shows, even though he's been accused of faking a lot of it, but each iteration of his different shows has seemingly gotten worse along the way, leading up to this fiasco. A hard pass for me.

I have been watching the survival in Alaska race lately. Can’t remember the exact name. Lots of skill, endurance , not typical reality type people cast. Very good show. I’m kind of addicted and for some reason I have not seen the first seasons. Just this one

I think the last time I watched this goof was a few years years ago when he had actress Cara Delevingne on. I watched that one 99% because of Delevingne.

I stopped watching him years ago when I found out all his stuff is highly staged when he was supposedly surviving. There was a guy doing the same type deal from Canada and was much better and more respected. Today I just watch outdoor stuff on YouTube subscriptions. Enjoy the variety/style of content each creator offers.

Les Stroud. Survivorman. That was some decent TV for a while.

Even in the celebrity stuff, it's 'survival' but it also includes something like a climbing system set up along the journey some how. That's not 'staged' per say but it's not really scraping away to live either.

It's kind of like that on Naked and Afraid. You get one item of your choice...and this pot for boiling water, and this fire starter, and this fishing string with a collection of hooks, and these fur pelts if it's in a cold region, and this bug net in the jungle, and the medic that seems like they're like 30 feet away at any time.

Alone is a little bit better. Although it's about watching people starve themselves and seeing how long they can do that.
Yeah I enjoy Alone for a bit but the last couple episodes of a season usually aren't too interesting because everyone is just trying not to die.

I was always more impressed with whoever was manning the camera on these survival shows. Bear would be getting whacked in the head with tree branches as we waded thru a swamp and somehow, the camera person always seemed to manage. Like how? Occasionally, they'd film one where the person biffed, but that happened way less than I expected. May be related to the staging piece I suppose...

Watching Bison Selfies is more interesting, waiting for a stampede and see who survives.

Just saw a clip of a bunch of people circling around a mama black bear and her cubs somewhere.

I'd love more people like this to get mauled if it didn't lead to the animal being put down.

I remember watching a video where someone figured out he was like a couple hundred yards off an interstate floating down a river with an obvious life vest on. It wasn’t truly apparent in real time but was completely obvious slowed down. It was over for me after that.
