I don't know much about wrestling and I bet my hawkeye buddy lunch that we win the national championship..............I'm trying to decide where to go to order my mushroom burger. Am I crazy?

I think it is a decent bet. It is just lunch. They are definitely a favorite but nothing wrong with a friendly bet.

Ask for 5 team points and I think you got a shot to win. No Gallick, Jensen and Ward digressing, and Burk and Sorensen likely not contenders for placing, we need our big guys to wrestle outstanding tournaments. 5 points would give you a decent shot if we wrestle really well.

It isn't crazy but it is unlikely. Crazier things have happened, but it would be a fairly decent upset. It would be an upset of epic proportions if someone other than Iowa or ISU won it...

Good bet, I like our chances.

Hawks are wrestling very good right now, but Nationals is 5 weeks away, a lot can happen.

I like your attitude, but I think next year is ISU's year.

I love the optimism but I am going to be a realist. I hope you didnt bet much because you are likely going to lose.
Iowa would be favorites to place higher than us at 125, 133, 141, 149, 157, 174, 184? and they beat us at 165 once this year and did last year at HWT. SO??? Not a great bet... But I would be smiling for a long time if we could get it done.

I would love it if they could do it, but I'd bet on the Twister Sisters to make the Elite Eight again before I'd bet on beating the Hawks at this point. Not impossible, but some things would have to fall right. If Gallick were healthy, it might have to weigh it again.

The Hawks will have some guys get upset. We need Long, Fanthorpe, Reader, Varner and Big Z to have good Tournaments. (3) Seniors need to step it up.

The fun thing about wrestling is that it only takes one match to change evertything.

I'd ask for at least 10...up to 14.5 if you can get it.

Bring your wallet.

I think you guys definitely have a good shot. As an Iowa fan I only feel really good about 149 and 174 at nationals. Long can go just as far or farther than McD. Same with Fanthorpe at 133 (though Dennis is coming back nicely). Reader can definitely do more damage than Morning*. Ward has outperformed Keddy all season at 184. And it's a tossup between Zabriskie and Erekson. That's 5 weights where it's realistic for ISU to outperform Iowa.

Iowa clearly is the favorite going in, and Varner's going to have to consistently produce bonus points in his wins (something he doesn't always do), but I think ISU has a solid chance at the title. Remember last year, Ohio St. nearly snuck up and took the whole thing.

125: I would agree. I think Long could out perform McD, they're both pretty well on the level and both inexperienced. We'll see who handles the big show better right out of the gates. I like Longs chances better in this tournament.

133: With the way Dennis has been wrestling I don't think Fanthorpe will go further than him, but he'll still do great.

141: Jensen will have to pin like crazy in those first rounds to make an impact for the team, he seems to struggle against the big dogs now that people have seen he's a cradler, but I say he still puts up some pins and some good points.

149: Mueller will do well, just not as well as Metcalf who's already won it all once before.

157: Sorensen, I think he's got a shot at surprising a few people early on, maybe I'm just bias cause I like the kid though. He just doesn't ever quit!

165: I think if Reader keeps gearing things up like he is, he could go all the way and put up some good bonus points along the way too.

174: Burke, we'll see if he's completely healthy, he could do a little damage, but Borschel is the man and could end up winning the thing. Not an Iowa fan in any way shape or form, but I can't help but like the kid.

184: Ward has been a bit inconsistent this season, but I think he could surprise a lot of people as well, I think he could be an all-american. Maybe a bit of homerism there, but I believe he's got what it takes.

197: Varner seems to have been ramping up his bonus point production and pinning more often than people think, I say he'll put up more points then people expect.

HWT: Z has been a bit dicey this year, but he's got the experience and has what it takes to go all the way, I say he pulls it off.

Thankyou GONZO, Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou. I did not think that you exsisted.

Finally, an Iowa Fan that understands wrestling, that understands that upsets are very common, that understands anything can happen in this Sport.

I agree, Iowa is the Favorite, but I also think that ISU has enough "Bullets" in it's Gun to win. Long, Fanthorpe, Mueller, Reader, Ward, Varner, and Z - those are (7) pretty good wrestlers.

Does anyone think a 3rd Team has a shot to win the Title?
Okie State
Ohio State
Cornell
I suppose it could happen.
