I am stuck in the worst traffic jam ever just north of Ankeny exit on south bound 35. Its unreal. I've gone 3 miles in 45 minutes. Fyi.

seems like that area has been a mess for traffic a lot lately. Last night it was a mess going north towards the game.

Its not gonna be long before they need to just 3 lane the whole stretch.. and redo the interchange at Hwy 30 because its a major accident waiting to happen.

I-35 southbound: Right lane closed.Between Exit 92: 1st Street (near Ankeny) and Exit 102: IA 210 (near Alleman). The right lane is closed due to an obstruction on the roadway. Until today at about 2:30PM CST.

Comment: Polk County: The right lane of I-35 SB from the 96-97 mile marker is closed due to a tow truck removing a semi tractor trailer from the ditch.

Last updated today at 11:19AM CST

This entire post is correct.
Instead of putting in that little fence/rail thingy in between north and southbound lanes between Ames and Ankeny, they should have just made it 3 lanes both directions with a cement barrier in between. Kind of like it is from Altoona to Des Moines.

3 lanes in each direction from 1st Ave in Ankeny to Hwy 30 in Ames would help a lot of problems. The 360 degree loop from I-35 NB to US Hwy 30 WB needs to be replaced with a flyover ramp.

I just hope they don't lower the speed limit from 70 to 65 on that stretch between Ankeny and Ames...

I hate to be that guy but it's really a 270 degree loop. If it were 360 degrees, you would end up going the same way you started.

I'm guessing we're 30+ years out of having 3 lanes all the way up to Ames even seriously considered. There much more traffic on I-35 between University and Grand Avenue exits in W Des Moines and it is still only 2 lanes. Also, as long as it is not an "urban" interstate, I don't know why there is any concern they speed limit would be decreased.

Yeah i passed by that going north. They are pulling a truck that flipped over from the side of the road and closed down one lane of traffic. It was backed up i think 6-8 miles. that was at like 2:30 when I passed it though.

I could be wrong, but im pretty sure its 3 lanes between George mills and university in WDM. That area is a mess too, they really need to fix things there too. Getting on northbound from university, you have to merge twice, once to get into traffic, and then immediately merge another lane so you arent forced off onto hickman.

Agreed. I don't know how many times I have been forced to almost take Hickman in that situation. It is extremely hard when you are pulling a trailer.
