Five most overpaid men's college basketball coaches: Looking at you, Calipari and Hoiberg

Money can't buy you happiness, a national championship or, in some cases, even a winning season.

Fred Hoiberg, Nebraska

Hoiberg's stint in Lincoln opened with enormous fanfare — all deserved after his terrific run at Iowa State — but has landed with a thud. Nebraska won just 24 games and went 9-50 in Big Ten play in his first three seasons, annually ranking among the very worst teams in the major conferences. The Cornhuskers have surged in the past month and are sitting at 16-15 overall and 9-11 in the Big Ten, raising hopes that the program has turned a corner.

... Hoiberg will have to continue Nebraska's climb up the conference standings to warrant his $3.25 million salary.

I think they got snubbed from the NIT. Makes sense, as Texas Tech and Oklahoma were much better analytically and didn't make it either.

But Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Rutgers all did.

The margin for a Big 12 team to make the NIT these days is almost non existent.

Once you're a couple games over .500 you're an NCAA bubble team anyway with an 18 game conference season of all quality games.

The strength of the conference has basically removed the Big 12 from the NIT.

I see North Carolina turned down their invitation but yes, Nebraska was snubbed.
.

1-9 vs quad one for UNC...ugh

What's the rational to turn down a chance to improve?

They feel like they're starting over so why bother?

It would annoy me if I were a fan, there's not some guarantee that North Carolina has to be great forever.

The way Nebraska was playing its best late...really dumb to not invite them, I get the NCAA not taking "hot" team into account but the NIT definitely should if a major conference team is over .500 and improving.

I’m pretty sure you have to have a winning record to make the NIT referring to TTU and OU.
Florida got in at 16-16, same record as Texas tech, but assuming they still have a head coach. Washington state and Villanova both in and at least ten slots worse in the NET rankings compared to TT. Nebraska was another twenty slots worse in NET, they rightfully are staying home

I would guess they want to get a head start on transfer season and let those planning to leave, leave.

It was a no-brainer to turn down the NIT, for UNC. No player or fan would GAF. Improving a team that will be totally different next year is worthless.

Texas Tech also turned down an NIT invitation.

I'm guessing that after the Mark Adams debacle, many players are transferring and wouldn't want to play anymore games this year.
I wondered if maybe they just turned it down. Too much turmoil and too many question marks moving forward to continue playing with the current squad. Ou several games below .500 so understandable I suppose that they weren't invited.

NU swept the Hawks. Give Fred a raise.
