Ok, I buy it, schools have a persona, or, more explicitly, programs have a character, a visibility that communicates about who you are and what you're about.

Just watched the Huggins-WVU post-game interviews. My god, you'd just thought they'd lost a nuclear war, their demeanor and comments seemed so beyond what was acceptable in a post-game interview atmosphere.

I thank the sports gods for Steve Prohm and our Cyclones. When they lose, they're human and lively, unlike the WVU kids and, particularly, Huggins, who came across as a dungeon-master who rules at the evil center of the earth.

Boy, do I ever appreciate our coaches and our Cyclone young men.

I think their response is normal for the situation. You have reporters asking digging questions that have almost no right answer. Huggins has always been blunt during post game interviews but is usually fair if the media is fair. I see no big deal. There's a reason these are not usually shown to the public, they are garbage interviews for the most part.

He is always like that. I remember when Fred beat him at Hilton their first time in Ames and acted like Fred ran over his dog with his car.

He will act as he chooses to act. My point is that I much prefer how Steve Prohm chooses to act opposed to how Huggins prefers to act.

I'm not arguing one is correct and the other is something else, just expressing the opinion that, boy, I'm so damn happy CSP is an Iowa Stater and that someone like Huggins is not.

I'm guilty of being one of Huggins worst critics on game day. I think that comes from his style of play which can be very frustrating for fans of opposing teams. The real truth is I actually like Huggins because he's east coast and very blunt to the point. He's hard on his players but I think he genuinely loves his players and the feeling is mutual. I always like his post game interviews. Some of his responses are hilarious. Love or hate him he's got one of the best coaching records of all time.

Bob Huggins
Born: September 21, 1953
Alma Mater: West Virginia (1977)

Career Record (major schools): 32 Years, 745-304, .710 W-L%
Schools: Akron (97-46), Cincinnati (398-128), Kansas State (23-12) and West Virginia (227-118)

Conference Champion: 11 Times (Reg. Seas.), 10 Times (Tourn.)

NCAA Tournament: 23 Years (29-22), 2 Final Fours, 0 Championships

While I may not like the style his team uses, I greatly respect the coach. I've seen far worse personalities on and off the court. He's blunt but almost always composed.

Here's a stark comparison after their win vs K-State - jimlad
He does talk about ISU towards the end.

I never knew Huggins was a more successful at Cincy than currently at WVU.

O.k................only ten coaches have ever achieved 800 wins.

One thing I might mention - I believe during Huggins' tenure at Cincy, not one single player on his roster graduated. I will try to verify this to be sure, but I know I read that somewhere in a comment on coaches and their graduation rates.

He had a lot of one and done and early entries...that are how you get to final fours.

I played left handed for like a month straight one summer because of Nick Van Exel....I could only dream of being that silky though.

Agree on how Prohm conducts himself.

I don't like how Huggins coaches his players but they play hard, and he's pretty funny at times.

Is he one I've heard stories about him being at the bar and having the place rolling?

Also agree at how stupid those pressers are--my fav was last year when Baylor's player mocked the reporter for asking how their first round opponent out rebounded them. The reporter deserved it and it was funny seeing him get played by a college kid.

His final four and an elite 8 appearance at Cincy appear to be led by jucos.

I believe he had a team close to the top one year and his best player broke his leg right before the tournament. Would have had a good shot to win that year. Still, I never really cared for the guy. The graduation rate thing is bad deal too.

I get that he is a good coach and he knows how to coach a playing style that is hard to play against (and takes advantage of how an official calls a game), but his actions where thin pretty quick when you play against him. The whole time out set up where the assistants rush out to the free throw circle with chairs and then they sit there until the second horn is painful.

Also, who out thought that Huggins had a bit of a "I'm going to take my ball home because I'm pissed" moment at the end of the Big 12 championship game? They could have fouled Young and/or Burton during those last couple of minutes to see if they could get us to miss a few. But no, they don't foul and the game quickly ends with no drama...weird.

I don't know if any of you noticed, but he hugged every one of his starters during player introductions for the Big 12 Championship game. I don't know if that's something he does for every game or just because this was for the championship, but I thought that was yet another sign that he may be the most misunderstood coach in all of college sports.

That was national player of the year, Kenyon Martin, in 2000. He broke his leg I believe in their conference tournament. Cincinnati was hands down the best team in the country and had handled ISU by double digits in the noncon. Kmart's injury opened the door for Michigan State or ISU to win the title, and you know what happened from there.....

That would be Kenyon Martin.
