While I love Hufford's confidence and passion , I really wish he hadn't said what he said in public. I'm just afraid that any chance of ISU catching a Texas team that might be vulnerable is now out the window as he said they have "high egos that need to be checked". I'm hoping i am that ISU can pull off a monumental upset Saturday but Im pretty sure Texas is going to be really jacked up now to run up the score.

Hufford in particular will probably get dropped on his ass a couple times, but agree with those who don't think it ultimately matters. Only way ISU gets 'blown out' in this game is if they psych themselves up too much like we've seen them do in countless games against Iowa in the MC era.

Yeah, Texas players have seen the comments and are getting chirpy on social media. The trash talking to the media almost always backfires. I hate it and think we just gave Texas added motivation that we didn't need to give them

If we’re being honest, bulletin board material probably isn’t as much of an influencer as media and fans make it out to be.

Of course we can point to specific quotes when particular things happen (say a player goes off), but there’s an entire universe of quotes that made no change to the expected results of a game (e.g., Iowa’s Anderson “saw a lot of opportunity” against our secondary, their passing game sucked but we still lost- not like it really changed the game to our favor there).

Friend in Austin said they talked about Hufford's comments this morning on local radio. They are aware of it. Said the radio guys more-or-less made fun of Iowa State saying they should have been worried about checking Iowa/Ohio/Kansas' ego and worried about not scoring a point vs Oklahoma in the 2nd half.

Does a social media post by a random player qualify as bulletin board material these days?

Seems to me, players would be numb to the pre-game talk. After all there is a lot of chatter & celebrations during games.

Don't really think it matters and that's my take.

Having said that, in a perfect world, I would prefer that Texas would be looking past "lowly Iowa State".
It is unfortunate that the Red River Rivalry isn't over Thanksgiving weekend. Would love them to have a reason to be looking past us.

Which is a valid point.

ISU's ok but hasn't really done anything besides qualify as a top 86 bowl eligible team and acting like beating Texas in Ames just happens is pretty stupid. This isn't Texas from the last several trips to Ames.

First offensive play of the game if Sweat is lined up over Hufford should be a screen pass to RB or TE. I wouldn't put it past Texas at all to target Hufford over and over at least early in the game.

It doesn't matter. Either Texas comes ready to play or they don't, and we're either ready to play or we aren't. Being worried about our players making bulletin board material for the opposition is loser mentality. If Texas already had a couple three losses I'd care slightly more but they still have motivation to play.

What is funny is that is pretty much what the Big Boys in the SEC were saying about Texas when it was announced OU and Texas were going over to the SEC.
