Hubalek article from ND paper

Well, it let me in the first time without having to register. Now of course it won't.

It was an article by the local sports columnist about Jiri being the difference in the game since NDSU's gameplan was to take away our 3-pt. shooting. Talks about Jiri liking to drift out and take the 3 and McDermott's battle to keep him in the paint. More honest article than you'd see in the DM Rag.

The two quotes I loved were more detailed than in the Register.

In the first some reporter asked Jiri after the game if he thought McDermott had been harder on him than the other players.

Jiri said, "Honestly?" followed by a long pause. Then, "Yeah", followed by a room full of laughter. Then he went on to thank McDermott for trying to make him a better player and how it was going to help him and the team in the long run.

The other quote was from McDermott saying he and Jiri hadn't been getting along too well when practice ended Dec. 26 at 11 p.m. Unless that was a misprint, I didn't know they worked them that hard over break.

In the AP article on ESPN.com, Greg said he was worried about the guys being fresh because he worked them so hard during the break. Also, Mike Taylor mentioned they had two a days the whole break.

Yes, it was refreshing to see him work hard in the paint. He surprisingly had very good footwork. I liked what I saw from the team, played very hard, especially defensively against a deliberate well coached team. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come. I am concerned about the game Saturday at Missouri. They press for 40 minutes, something our guards do not handle very well.

Hopefully this game will help Jiri understand the type of difference he can make if he stays in the paint. He's a huge threat... he can make those close lay-ins, and if he gets fouled, he can make his free throws! How many big guys can boast that? If he can get to the free throw line a bunch of times while attacking in the paint... that can be a HUGE help.
