Iowa State Football Championship Notes - KMAland.com: Sports

Not sure where to put this thread, but the IA high schools play indoors this weekend. Good planning. The SC Heelan team has quite the defense.
They have always had the state semifinals and finals in the Unidome. Too bad the KU game this weekend wasn't in a dome. ISU may have actually have a much better crowd in the Unidome than Jack Trice this weekend.

My nephew plays for Xavier and we are heading over to watch. I expect a good game.

"Always" = "your lifetime" I'm betting. Thought the semis just started a few years ago.

Dowling-Xavier game tonight should be a good one. Dowling scores 40 points/game, Xavier allows 5.

Jealous of the turf that got installed a couple years ago. Playing on the old turf, you'd come out bloody on your arms.

Anyone notice 7 of the 12 teams in the finals are catholic schools (in bold below)? Can they recruit or give scholarships?

Pretty sure this conversation is had just about every year and every year there's a big argument about how Dowling does this and Valley does that and Joe transferred from X to Y because he was recruited and Rob transferred from X to Y because he was getting letters in 4th grade from the coaches and this school has good athletes because they were recruiting them in pre-K and offering them scholarships.

Did I cover all the ridiculous crap that gets thrown around every year?

Maybe, but since I'm not privy to the information, is there a clear answer? I'm sure there are a ton of transfers and this an that in the large schools. How about with the small schools?

Six classes:

There isn't a clear answer.

The obvious answer is that most of the Catholic schools are in larger areas than a lot of the like-sized schools. I would also venture a guess that economically on average the students in the Catholic schools come from backgrounds where opportunity is greater.

Not sure about all details, but I believe a team could choose if they wanted to play in the dome or not in the Semis, and they made it mandatory/everyone some time in the 90's. I feel like Linn Mar in '91 or so played even the championship game outside as well.

Watching Waukon/Kuemper Catholic and Kuemper's QB Cole Neary looks pretty good. Anybody know anything about his recruitment? Rivals has a profile for him but no schools listed.
