Reading Kirk Haaland's article brought back many memories from my years at ISU:
The modern era began with Johnny Majors from 1968-1972, and our first two bowl games, and the beginning of plans for the new stadium. We used to sit between the goal posts, in the end zone raised bleachers of old Clyde Williams Field. (The bleachers started at the elevation of the cross bar.) I Remember 1969 with Obert Tisdale the big former running back, converted for one year to quarterback. He could throw the ball the length of the field. When he went back to pass we would cheer: "Go Obert," but sadly none of his receivers could run that far that fast, so most of the time the ball would hit the ground. Later, Earl Bruce went 8/3, 8/4, and 8/4 with two more bowl games in his last two years at ISU. Then we faced the Donny Duncan bust starting in 1979 at 3/8. We did not reach anything near 8 wins again until 9/3 with McCarney in 2000, and than Matt Campbell at 8/5 in 2017 and 2018, and now 8+/2 in 2020.
For us old timers who have followed the Cyclones from the start of the modern era, it has been a long time coming, so GO CLONES, GET THAT CHAMPIONSHIP!
