I know everything Fred touches turns to gold. But I don't see the appeal of this job. If the Bulls can't get past Lebron this year, I just don't see it happening any time soon. Aging roster, D Rose not an MVP caliber player anymore (still not sure he can stay healthy long either).

i feel like Fred is set up for failure here. Following a guy with 5 straight playoff appearances.

i feel like the Timberwolves job is actually better.

No, not any better than Thibs anyway.

He is set up to fail there IMO. He will be GarPax's little beeyoch for one thing. He also has an aging roster, and will be in a city where if you don't win rings you're a failure.

Good luck Fred! That organization is MESSED up.

I think the Timberwolves is a much better opportunity as well, lot of nice young pieces on that roster. Plus no pressure to win right away, can grow as a coach with all the young guys

The Bulls aren't so old that they would scare a potential NBA coach who feels he has to win early.
If Fred is good with the Bulls, he could move to the Timberwolves in a year or two once those young guns are ready to compete. It's a different world.

Fred has a brilliant offensive mind but he's never proven his chops on the defensive side of the ball. That team is aging and stuck behind LeBron wherever he's at. And Fred's offensive cred is going to be diminished somewhat in a league that has several high caliber offensive coaches if he goes. If players view Fred as a management guy, will they ever even give Fred a chance to coach? He could get Floyded pretty quickly, honestly.

Still don't see it as a smart move by Hoiberg at all.

The situation in Chicago is setup for failure no matter who steps in next. Fred included.

He signs a contract with the Bulls if he takes that job, he can't just take another NBA coaching job in a year or two if he feels so inclined.

Another point for Minnesota that I didn't realize until this week, in addition to their young guys already on the roster and the number one pick this year, they also have the rights to the Euro League MVP Nemanja Bjelica a 6'10" stretch four whose contract is up next summer.

Fred pretty much will have two years to win with that team. As I have said many times, the Bulls are a few years away from going into re-build mode.

I don't think he'll last long, the franchise is one (more) D Rose injury away from a fire sale. Even if they stay healthy, they dont' have enough to compete with Lebron. The T'wolves job on the other hand, feels like the OKC job 7 or 8 years ago. Someone is going to "Scott Brooks" there way into a loaded roster.

Going to the NBA (Bulls, Twolves, etc.) is a change in mind-set to what CFH has here in Ames. He is basically waiting to be fired at that level (NBA). If he doesn't get them to conference championships on a consistent basis - he will be fired. That's the nature of coaching in the NBA. Occasional low-seed playoff births won't cut it.

The Bulls are a mess. Fred will be in tough situation, just like Tim Floyd was in.

Not even a comparable situation. Player-wise, Fred inherits a roster that is playoff ready and made a fairly good run a month ago. He has a strong existing relationship with guys where there is mutual respect.

The more I have seen regarding Thibodeau (I'm a Bulls' fan), the more I understand why he had to go and why the bridge was not just burned, it was blown up. Players hated him, avoided their workout place for fear of running into him. There's a story about how Luol Deng showed up for a little shooting on an off-day. Thibodeau saw him and put him through what he called the hardest workout of his life. I think Hoiberg makes it fun again and players will respond.

For the crowd who thinks he isn't up for the NBA, he's been an NBA guy for a long time as a player and front office guy. Look at this year's NBA finals- two rookie coaches. Obviously, one inherited Lebron James. But the other simply came in with a different offensive scheme, made the game fun again and players responded. I think that's what Fred does with the Bulls. Look, there's a reason why almost every team with an open NBA job in the last couple years has at least inquired. I think he'll be very successful.
