NFL: Houston/Tenn

Finnegan is a dirty player..... and I agree that if you set off Johnson you must of had it coming your way.

He will be suspended but I loved seeing him drill Finnegan. He just owned him

I know Finnegan is a dirty player, but AJ pulled off Finnegan's helmet first.

Dude went up with both hands to his face first. Probably had been going on all game.

Yep. Pretty stupid that the NFL wants to suspend players for "illegal" hits, but two guys go all MMA on each other and get slapped with a $25,000 fine. Pathetic.

Agreed. I think if the penalty is big enough you get ejected from the game it should be a mandatory 1 game suspension.

One interesting point that was brought up on PTI is that the Texans play in the Thursday NFL Network game-- and NFL Network just happens to be owned by, you guessed it, the NFL.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the penalties for fighting pretty clearly defined by the CBA? I'm pretty sure I heard it get brought up in the wake of the Richard Seymour affair. As I understand it, the league can't suspend players for fighting, unless they've had a certain number of prior incidents. There's a progression. The first offense is a fine of X dollars. The second offense is X dollars. And the third can result in a suspension. Could be wrong, but that's the way I heard it. Even if he wanted to, Goodell couldn't suspend them.

Johnson should have kicked his *** if for no other reason that for that stupid haircut

Normally I'd say a situation like this fight is an absolute disgrace, however, this whole incident has caveat written all over it.

Cortland Finnegan is a thug, and wants to be known as the "NFL's Dirtiest Player". He is basically the NFL's version of Sean Avery, and anyone with slight knowledge of the NHL would understand the reference. From what I had been hearing yesterday, this is at least Finnegan's third incident this year, and has been riding Johnson like this for 4 years now.

The kicker for me, though, is it sounds like Finnegan turned to the Texans' sidelines and said something along the lines of "Hey ya'll, watch this" before he jacked Johnson in the face. At that point Johnson could not not go.

Should Johnson have controlled himself? Absolutely. Not to mention Johnson gets this and is probably the maddest out of anyone critiquing him because he knows he shouldn't have blown his cool. Of course, you have Finnegan with no remorse whatsoever, stating that he's going to appeal the fine, acting as if he's done nothing wrong. Of course not - it's not as if he wasn't jumping up and down after the fight acting like he won it. Truth is, his only "win" in that fight was the fact that the refs broke it up before Johnson had the chance to do any real damage.

Fact: Finnegan is a dirty player
Fact: Finnegan is an instigator
Fact: Johnson was raining haymakers down on Finnegan
Fact: Both got EJECTED from the game.

I just feel that if something is bad enough to get ejected then you should miss the next game and be fined your game check.
