I nominate myself for understatement of the year with that subject line. Who wouldn't want to play for Hoiberg? How could someone want to play for McD?

Good evidence on the McD front: Younger McDermott understands coach's ire - Omaha.com (The picture of that article may be the best part).

[Greg's lecture probably hurt his son's play more than it helped.
"It got in my head a little bit," Doug said. "It's part of coaching, I guess. It's tough. It's hard to focus on what you're doing. But it's gonna happen."]

P.S. Sorry in advance to all those posters who never want to talk about McD.

I dunno... I think McDermott was "misunderstood" in his time here.

Oh, and when these transfers are gone, what's Fred gonna do?? ...back to losing.

Dumb. You don't think having these transfers here and getting some wins will help recruiting? We're gonna be good for a long time.

Biggest difference between McD and Hoiberg:

When McDermott is here, players transfer to other teams.
When Hoiberg is here, players from other teams transfer here.

Ummmmmmm......jimlad?

And I'm about the last one here to stick up for McD; however I think we can say "Hoiberg > McDermott" and leave it at that without taking any more shots at Chewy or his son.

I was never really against McD. What always cheezed me off was all his fanboys constantly telling us "Greg is as good as we're going to get! Without him, we'd be Nebraska basketball for all eternity!", when it's always been obvious that he's an acceptable coach who is replaceable.

Finally a thread where people can let out all those negative toughts about Gmac out that they've bottled up for years.....

That sums it up pretty good. It felt like it was weekly that someone was running away from ISU with McDoormat here. It's a nice change to have people that want to be around the program.

Whether McD is a worse coach than Fred we will see after Fred has been a coach longer. I think we find that the above is true. At the same time it is obvious that he was a really bad fit for ISU and his record here was not an indication of him being a bad coach.
