Not sure if anyone else is checking out this new series on History Channel hosted by Peyton Manning. Thought it'd be a colorful topic for discussion.

Episode 1: Stadium Smackdown - the greatest stadiums and arenas of all time.

1. Yankee Stadium (New York, NY)
2. The Collisseum (Rome)
3. Madison Square Garden (New York, NY)
4. Fenway Park (Boston, MA)
5. LA Memorial Coliseum (Los Angeles, CA)
6. Wembley Stadium (London)
7. Comiskey Park (Chicago, IL)
8. Wimbledon (London)
9. The Astrodome (Houston, TX)
10. The Superdome (New Orleans, LA)

My kneejerk is there are easily a few "misses" here. Yankee Stadium at #1 is silly IMO. Sure there's a lot of history but as a venue it's pretty blah. I'd think Wrigley deserves a spot ahead of that and ahead of Comiskey. Three of the top four being East Coast is typical bias. And four baseball stadiums but not a single dedicated European football stadium? Old Trafford should be on this list somewhere.

Comiskey seems like an outright troll job by the History Channel. There’s no way they can actually believe that. Wonder what the rationale was.

Maracana In Rio absolutely needs to be on that list.

I think it's stupid that Yankee Stadium is at #1, and dumber yet that Comiskey is on there at all. And... is it supposed to be Old Comiskey or New Comiskey? And the fact that it's there while Wrigley is not is ridiculous (and I hate the Cubs!) Also, the Astrodome on there is stupid.

I agree with Fenway, Wimbledon, LA Coliseum, MSG, & Wembley, and maybe the Superdome.

Are the Yankee and Comiskey stadiums the old or the new versions?

Old Yankee when I went really wasn't old Yankee either. It was after that 70s rebuild and I'm sure that took some of the flavor away.

Old Comiskey was a dump. That's being as positive as I can be. This would be the 80s version and the place had seen better days.

That said....still better than the new place.

MSG isn't even as cool as the train station it replaced

Fenway was built when adults were about 5'5"

History, first stadium to use pyrotechnics, first made of concrete and steel, Blacksox scandal, first ever All Star game, birth of the "na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye" organ/chant, held 32k in 1910, which was unheard of back then.

The old Chicago stadium was the best for Blackhawk games before the United Center came along.

The Met Center in Bloomington Mn was great, too.

I'm surprised the none of the Big House, Ohio Stadium, or the Rose Bowl are on here. Also, how do you not include one of the major world soccer stadiums? Old Trafford, Santiago Bernabéu, Estadio Azteca?

I was a little surprised that LA Coliseum is on there and the Rose Bowl isn't. Probably couldn't have them both, and the Coliseum hosted an Olympic Games, but I'd lean to the Rose Bowl, much richer history in CFB.
 
Not a huge soccer guy but I always think Wembley Stadium when I think of iconic stadiums in England, but I've never been there.
