I think we should consider hiring Ernie Kent as an Associate Head Coach, that will strength our ties to the NW corner and California recruiting. Word is that there are a bunch of great players in Seattle right now. Plus I think it wouldn't help to have a seasoned Major Div. I coach on your staff. It has seemed to work well for Missouri?

Anyone else have any thoughts?

If he was willing to leave the NW. And ready to take an assistant job after just getting fired from a place he's been at forever. Why not?

Just happened to go look at ISU opening, guess what was posted on 3/15/10

Maybe because we just lost someone, not by firing but by the mans choice? Lets think you're funny as hell because you can point out something completely ridiculous:chatterbox::biglaugh::skeptical::wink::smile::notworthy::jimlad::sad::confused::dull::no::eek::chatterbox::chatterbox::chatterbox::chatterbox::chatterbox::chatterbox::chatterbox::confused::wideeyed:

There, is that the audience you wanted?

Kent will take a year off, ponder retirement, and work year 2 as a West Coast commentator. Then, when a small job in the PNW opens up, he will be candidate. A good example would be Seattle, where Cameron Dollar holds the head coaching job. With any success, Dollar will be coaching in the PAC-10 in a few years. Kent then can make his return.

The announcement does say it is only a 12 month appointment. Start the rumors for One More Year.

Not going to happen he has had was to much success to settle for being an assistant here. Only was he is in Iowa next year if he is the head coach at that other school .

Better yet in my mind, hire Kenny Payne, one of Kents assistants but a great southern recruiter and was instrumental in several of Oregons best recruits over the past 5 years.

Plus he's credited with helping implement the offensive system to oregon, which is a lot more exciting and fun to watch then Mcdermotts 10,000 plays.....

This guy would be a great get....

I would assume most asst. positions (except 1st asst) are 12 month appointments. Gives the employer flexibility, without severance/termination issues.

Not sure why anyone would want him for ISU. The gripe about him here is the lack of recruiting the last couple of years.

Someone is going to step into a pretty good situation here, at least in terms of facilities. Brand new $220 million-plus arena opens next season.

Kent only had one recruit signed for next year......but then he was only losing 2 players this year. Young team.......10 sophomores, 2 freshmen, and one junior......if they all stay. The team was 16-16 overall though.

I hadn't heard anything about Ron Smith leaving until after I posted, my bad.
