Help me understand this!!!

Depends how incompetent the person running B is.

Don't really care to share the "incompetent" viewpoint. But otherwise... yes.

At somepoint you have consider beyond the fact the Entity A doesn't make as much as entity B, and start worrying about how much of a drain A has become on B.

I'm thinking that is increasing every day. Sure we have to pay out a couple mil to GMac. How much are we losing by his staying? We're saving 2.5 in salary, but losing XXX in ticket and game day revenue? Donations? Maybe not equal, but I bet still sizeable. (oh that's right, we don't keep attendance figures so we wouldn't know the reall dollars. :skeptical:)

Didn't seem to have a problem cutting Wayne loose at the drop of a hat. I somewhat supported that decision, so I'm not slamming JP for it.

But wasn't FB "bigger" than BBall even then? Where did the funds come from then? Why is this so much different?

I'll go back and suggest that GMac is a JP hire, Morgan wasn't. Little tougher to can your own?

Good post. I think this is right on the money actually. I underestimated JP's bean-counter mentality. Now that I understand the 6% conversation Deace had with Pollard and the argument Deace was making this morning I agree with you and him. The precedent is set that no negative financial activity can occur for a program that only provides 6% of revenue. Like Deace said, next year when it’s 5.5% the same argument can be made. And the year after. And the year after.

Really by saying that the statement is made that Greg will be here regardless because it’s too expensive to fire him. Which is fine. If that is the case and the fans get frustrated enough the only option will be to stop buying tickets and donating to the point that 6% goes negative or starts to impact football. The impetus has been put on the fans at this point and that’s fine.

At the rate it is going, in five years we may be ready for the MVC.

This is really what the whole situation comes down to. If this were not the case then why would you ever fire a coach Bball coach unless they were involved in some sort of scandal or causing other detrimental actions to come on the program. In almost every case FB is the breadwinner so why even have a MBB team at all if you are not going to at least TRY to be successfull. I dont want to take money away from improving our FB program but at what point do the cost of keeping Gmac outweigh the costs of firing him and hiring a new coach????

If basketball is not important, and saving money is, please don't offer basketball coaches near infinite year contracts.

You never, to my knowledge, got a job using your Major then. I just never for the life of me pictured you getting a BA in Psych.
Yeah in all honesty during the first couple years at Vandy out of my core courses, the Psych ones were the only ones I really liked and found interesting so that is what I went with at State. Oh so long ago. And seriously....I use it every day. Just not in my field. I worked for 9 years at Hyvee working in management and dealing with all ages so it came in pretty handy....LOL

You signed my shirt when I was 13 or so. I can understand if you don't remember, it was hard to know how truly awesome I was going to turn out to be.

Things are starting to make sense now. We hired a MVC coach and since then we've been MVC caliber (at best). We can't compete in the Big12 with the incompetent coach we are stuck with. We can't afford to get rid of him because of the ridiculous contract he was given. Why don't we temporarily move to the MVC in MBB until his contract expires?

- We can actually win some conference games

- We might have a chance at a post season

- We save ourselves the embarrassment of pretending to be a Big12 team

- We save on recruiting costs, travel expense, and lose fewer players

If I remember correctly, we paid off Morgan's contract and DMAC's contract with funds that were in the bank. I'm not sure how much we have in the bank, but i'm sure it is not close to what it was then.

Someone, way early in the thread, mentioned 4 million as the price to clean up the mess. That seems cheap when you're talking about staving off nuclear winter.
