HawkeyeNation Msg Board

It's always hard to judge how these types of things will affect a team its next game, can go either direction.

They can all draw draw a member of exceptional circumference into the mouth by contracting the muscles of the lip and mouth to make a partial vacuum. Or whatever it was Zach said.

The funniest part is Jon trying to claim he had any motivation other than trying jump on a potentially hot story. He's a real crusader for decency that Jon Miller.

JON: Your problem with that? I agreed with Zach. Feel that there is a sick minority out there who are cowards and would pee down their legs if they were to be forced to say the things face to face they hide behind anonymity and say. And I like to shine line of that ugly minority in the hops of stamping them out, one cockroach at a time.

Its almost liek a chicken and egg thing. Were they stupid before they started posting there and got even dumber by being around him or have they all always been that dumb?

Being they're Hawk fans that likely were before they knew of the board, I'm going to assume they were stupid before.

longtime CF member BryceC is dead on, over there, when he posts about JM's re-tweets only giving greater voice to the idiots. Jon may think he's stomping cockroaches, but all he's doing is elevating them up so the rest of us are sure to see them. Where does the stomping come in? Are those cockroaches still able to post? Yes? Then you've done nothing to hinder them, Jon Miller, only given them attention.

I'm sure the page views that this generated weren't a consideration.

Oh, no! Of course not! How dare you suggest such a thing? Jon Miller is 100% altruistic, and is only interested in ridding the internet of boorish behavior. He has no need for paltry page views. He lives in Oklahoma, where the only page views that count are in the New Testament.

They're doing the lord's work over there on HN.

So if someone makes racist comments, do you cover them up, or do you expose them for the ignorance that they are? Of course you shine a light on the ignorant, and stupid, that way people see them. They understand stupid and ignorance when they see it. Why the heck so you think I shine a spotlight all over the in state forum and the stupid that is posted??? Sure around here stupid will stick up for stupid, but rational thinking people see it for what it is......

This raises an interesting argument and a question I've thought of in the past.

What is the end goal of Jon Miller and Chris Williams (sorry to lump you in this Chris!)?

Are they fans who run a website or reporters? If Jon wants to be a reporter, I have no issue with him retweeting these things. Page views are his objective and that's the news. Just like I would have no issue with Travis Hines or Scott Dochterman doing the same thing. These guys are supposed to be reporting.

But Jon also wants to be a fan. Which is why he gets defensive when those guys call him out.

I've wondered what these guys would do if they were leaked something damaging to the team or their University. Do they sit on it or report it?

Except he didn't do anything to expose any of the idiots doing the actual idiotic harassing, he just beamed a big spotlight on the Iowa player that lost his cool online. Even if he actually had altruistic intentions, he went about it the wrong way.

Police your message board, write an editorial against lousy fans, find the actual troll posts on Twitter and start mocking them relentlessly. All of those would have been more productive towards the problem than re-tweeting McCabe. Unless of course you just want more pageviews on your Twitter and site, then he handled that exactly right.

I'm fine with what Jon did. It's not like the story wasn't going to get out anyway, and like you said if he is a journalist and businessman first, that's easily the smart move. Just don't try to paint it as trying to be a do-gooder. It's insulting people's intelligence, even Hawk fans.
