I currently own one right now, and he is kind of an ornery little bastard. I don't know if it's because I got him when he already had previous owners and they didn't spend too much time with it when it was younger. So I don't know they are suppose to be more "cuddly" or not. He is pretty easy to take care of though. For his "cage" he is in a large storage container probably about 3' x 1.5' and contains a small litter box with a hamster wheel over the top of it. I don't use wood clippings but rather old t-shirts for him to burrow under. He also goes by the name Huebert.
Friends have one and we had to hedgehog sit it one night. Seem pretty easy to take of, little hard to handle with all the quills. They are pretty bad*** little dudes though.
They need to be well-socialized when young so they're used to human interactions. If they are not given a lot of attention early on, they don't typically react well to being handled. They are also usually naturally nocturnal, but you can break them of that with the daytime/evening socialization. Once they're used to being awake during normal 'people' hours, they'll be more set to your internal clock than their own.
