Apparently KU didn't hire him because of two reasons: he said he'd leave for Michigan and would listen to the NFL.

Not sure if he would have turned it around there tbh.

Wasn’t much turning around to do at that point. KU won 12 games and the Orange Bowl in 2007 and then went 8-5 in 2008. 2009 wasn’t good, but Mangino got fired after that for reasons other than W/L record

Harbough wqs hard one for AD’s back then. Everyone knew he could coach but they also knew he would bail in 2 or 3 years to something better. Good thing we hired Chizik
But we got only two (bad) years from Chizik anyway. Even if Harbaugh bolted after 2, he couldn't have done any worse - then we still could hire Rhoads I guess.

It’s hard to know what would have happened. If chizik hadn’t sucked, pollard might not have wanted to hire the home town guy. Rhoads had 4 fairly good years with more big wins than any other coach we’d had. If Rhoads hadn’t excited the fan base, Campbell might not have been interested in the job.

Would depend on his recruiting. At least Chizik got a few guys that ended up sticking around to give some monumental wins.
