Joel Hanrahan knew the Nationals eventually wanted to make him a closer.
He just didn't know it would come so soon. During his first full year in the Major Leagues in 2008, Hanrahan -- a second-round Draft pick of the Dodgers in 2000 -- came into a team with veteran experience in the back end of the bullpen, with Chad Cordero and Jon Rauch. But Cordero's injury troubles, followed by the trade of Rauch in July, made Hanrahan the Nationals' go-to closer down the stretch.
