Hang Joens's jersey

I guess I don't get the rush. If they appear worthy today, they will appear worthy in ten years. I think the perspective of waiting can be valuable.

I would say that if we are looking at other candidates Angie Welle (Edinger) should be in the conversation.

Welle graduated in 2002 and got her jersey retired in 2010. Less than the 10 years everyone is clamoring about. Fred had his retired 2 years after graduating and holds, according to my search, exactly 0 records at ISU. The only records he held for a couple years was 3P% and FT%.

Welle's jersey was retired in 2010.

Retired jerseys:
32 Angie Welle (1999-02)
42 Tonya Burns (1982-85)
51 Megan Taylor (1998-01)
53 Jayme Olson (1995-98)

Carleton and Joens are no-brainers once they become eligible. Based on national recognition, I think Stacy Frese is the only other player that deserves serious consideration at this time.

Don’t disagree with Stacy, Bridget, or Ashley, but I would add Mrs. Otz as well. I like the 10 year rule. If it’s a fine wine it will be even better in 10 years

The problem is ISU has dragged their feet on adding anyone to this list, they have pigeon holed themselves. If they added all of them, which would be deserved, they would double the amount of women retired numbers. There has to be a better way to keep the former players honored, quicker than 10 years.

I get that’s the requirements set by the AD, but that wasn’t brought up until after your post. The way your post read, was that Carleton would get in based on merit over Joens and I was curious as to why you thought that.

If you are just saying she would get in first by a technicality due to when they could each make the Athletic HOF and cover that requirement, I obviously would agree.

If you made me pick one to get their jersey hung this year, no HOF requirement, it’s Joens by a wide margin in my book.
I think he probably said it more so because Carleton graduated 4 years before Joens, so it makes sense that if both get retired, Carleton would be first, regardless of the AD's rules.

If you are hanging shirts then Angie Welle has to be up there. She ran thee court like no other big I've seen. Scored, rebounded, blocked shots, made FT she did it all. Stand corrected 2010

I guess it has been too long since I have been in Hilton. I don't even know what jerseys are hanging there.

Thanks for correcting me.

It irks me a bit that our process is so sloooooow. Sometimes, there are no brainers, and it seems a bit ridiculous that we haven't hung a jersey in 15 years (and that was for a player who deserved to be alive to see that).
doesn’t undertake criminal activity or do something that would tarnish their reputation).
