MLB: Halladay to Phils, Cliff Lee to Mariners

Unless Halladay signs a long term deal as part of the trade I think it makes no sense. Lee is about as good as they get for a left handed starter.
That is part of the deal, if I read it correctly. Also, as an M's fan, I LOVE this deal. Nobody is sure who the Ms are giving up, but we don't have any real elite prospects and I'm assuming that Felix, Ichiro, and Chone will stay. Anyone else, and like I said, I LOVE this deal.
I guess Lee was asking for 23 million a year if he were to sign an extension so I kinda see why he was dealt
Not going to keep Lee at that price. But if we are giving up only 3 prospects for a year of renting Lee, then its still a great deal. Plus, if Lee leaves in FA next year, the Ms will get 2 compensatory picks in the first round of the 2011 draft to replace some of the young talent we gave up. All and all I think this is a huge steal by the Ms.
I like this deal for the M's as well. It almost seems like they may be attempting to make a run for Griffey's last year......
The Phillies should have tried to work the deal so they could keep both Lee and Halladay...along with Hamels! I know Lee would have walked in a year but that would have been an incredible 1-2-3! I am an AL fan...but man the Phils have been going after it the past few years! Good for them! Good time to be a Phillie fan...that organization has shown they want to win it all!
I thought about that as well...the Ms have stepped up for sure! The Angels have to be wondering how they were well on their path to dominating that division...to being picked as a runner-up next season! The Angels are still good...but nothing like they were...got a bit old and now without Lackey, Figgins...and more (Vlad?)!
