Hakeem Butler Projected to go #6 Overall

The kid is a helluva talent and based on (what little) I know about the NFL and their evaluation I could see him having that kind of upside. That said, as spectacular as he is, he still has some really headscratching drops, and it's hard for me to imagine him going anywhere near that high as long as he can't be counted on to make the simple plays along with the circus catches.

I can definitely see it. Speed. Size. Strength. An uncanny ability to make the big play. Not sure what else you'd want in a high draft pick at receiver.

Consistency. Like another poster already said, gotta be able to make the simple plays as well as the circus catches. Sixth overall seems a little high to me but I think he could be in the mix at the back end of the first round.

Kiper and McShay don't even have him or Montgomery listed on their big boards right now. That being said I would not be surprised if both are told they'd be drafted in the 1st 3 rounds which is probably enough to make them consider forgoing their senior season. Still a long way out from the draft but it's sounding like defensive players are going to dominate the 1st round next year.

I wish I could get paid Kiper or McShay money and be as terrible at my job as they are...

I agree, but you can improve that. You can't coach, teach or learn size and speed.

Honestly I don't always want my Packers to draft Cyclones. However, I want them to get Butler. He would be amazing playing with AAron.

Posted this on the Pedo State feed, but Butler is getting noticed more.

  1. Hakeem Butler, WR, Iowa State
  • There’s been a bit of a void at the top of this wide receiver class ever since Ole Miss’ DK Metcalf went down for the season. There’s a ton of talk around this wide receiver class and one of the names heating up is Iowa State’s Hakeem Butler. Against Oklahoma earlier this season Butler put on a show. Then against Texas Tech this past Saturday he did it again. Butler’s got a rare combo of size and speed. He’s a monstrous 6-6, 225 pounds, but has dynamic downfield ability. Butler has a knack for making circus catches and although he’s raw, he’s a freaky prospect. He torched the Red Raiders for 148 yards and a score on just four receptions. Butler could be a rare talent.

I am constantly checking out mock drafts and do one of my own every year. I hadn't seen this one yet. I think the WR out of Arizona State will be the first WR drafted, but I could see Butler being a late 1st rounder. I got him going mid-2nd round to the Eagles. But they just traded for Golden Tate so if they re-sign him, they probably won't draft a WR early.

One thing I definitely agree on compared to other mock drafts is the Giants taking Nick Bosa if they get the #1 pick. I'm not sold on any of the QB prospects in this draft so I think they would be better off finding someone in free agency or maybe trading a 2nd or 3rd round pick for someone. Maybe go after Tyrod Taylor and let him run the offense until figuring out a long term solutuion.

I have Montgomery going to Buffalo in the early part of the 2nd round in my first mock draft, and Peavy going in round 7 to Miami.

Not surprised considering the NFL puts a lot of stock into potential and Butler has loads of that.
