MLB: Greinke wins the AL Cy Young!

Sweet...Now Kansas City can ask for even more when they decide to trade him in the future...former Cy Young award winners are worth more...

Zack is a great story, and to think he almost hung it up a couple years ago because of his anxiety disorder. He deserves the award despite the Royals inability to score him any runs, and it gives the fans some shred of hope to cling to.

The kid knows how to pitch, and if the Royals are smart, they will try to lock him up and never trade him (unless they get contracted).

Good! He deserved to win it. They said he didn't have enough wins, but how do you win as much as the others with no team around you.

Are all the awards given out? Did Mauer get his MVP yet?

maybe they can get him to sign a long term extension that is back loaded so that they can keep him around and build around him. Luckily, Boras is not his agent...The Royals have a chance, but they need to hurry up, he is a free agent after this next season

He's not a free agent after next season. Greinke agreed to a deal last offseason that has him under contract in KC through 2012. It was a 4 year/$38m deal which bought out his first 2 years of free agency. For those that are interested it breaks down like this:

2009: $3.75m
2010: $7.25m
2011: $13.5m
2012: $13.5m

Thanks, The website that I looked at said that he was a free agent after 2010, but that makes sense that he isn't.

They already did lock him up for the 1st two years of his free agency.... need to show him we can compete if we want to get that deal extended!

He already said he doesn't want to pitch in New York. The dude is certifiably crazy, but just throws bb's. Not everyone can throw a curve at three diffrent speeds, then have the ability to throw 97 in the 9th inning. The Royals already locked him up for a couple more years, and he wants to stay here. The team is building around two really good young players, Greinke and Billy Butler who raked even though the guy hitting two and four were horrible.
