Duke Burk may get his release after all. Another rumor from another message board, but I have been seeing hints of this news on Cyclone Report. The poster on themat.com is from Illinois and may have better knowledge of the Northern Illinois University and Duke Burk situation... Only thing that is frustrating is that the poster thinks Jerome Ward (fr.) will be at 197, while it is a sure thing for Jake Varner to move up to 197.

Either way, Burk getting his release and being able to join Varner, Gallick, Fanthorpe, Sanderson, Mueller, and Zabriske's class, will mean BIG things for the next two years...

I noticed that we have dropped Northern Illinois from our schedule. This should mean that Duke Burk will be released from his scholarship at Northern Illinois and be allowed to wrestle for the Cyclones this year and next year at 174. We will resume our series with Northern Illinois after Burk's graduation.

Updated lineup
125. #19 Tyler Clark (So.)
133. #6 Nick Fanthorpe (Jr.)
141. #2 Nick Gallick (Jr.)
149. #11 Mitch Mueller (Jr.)
157. #6 Cyler Sanderson (Jr.)
165. #4 Jon Reader (So.)
174. #11 Duke Burk (Jr.)
184. #24 Jerome Ward (Fr.)
197. #1 Jake Varner (Jr.)
285. #2 David Zabriske (Jr.)

So lets just say the poster is correct and Ward moves to 197. Who steps in at 184?

It is widely known that Varner is going to 197. Ward will be 184 unless someone beats him out.

So, how are we going to look this year? Can or will we win it all this year and kick the c*** out of MN and the hawks? Name the top 5 at the end of the year.

We're still a long ways away from seeing how any team is going to do. Maybe a decent picture will develop in November.

Looks like a State of Iowa year (with a little threat from Ohio St). Minnesota and OK St have lost a lot and if Gallick wrestles well ALL year we can beat Iowa (and everybody else).

What about Carr? Does he drop to 149 or be satisfied with the likelihood of being backup to Sanderson and/or Reader...or does Sanderson drop back to 149 making room for Carr. Mueller IS a very good wrestler but in this lineup may be the weak link!

I am also interested in what Carr will be doing . . . any ideas? Seems like too good of wrestler to waste

Carr was withheld from competition last year ('07-'08) after winning the JUCO crown in '07. I thought this constituted his "redshirt" and that he simply has 3 years of eligibility in Ames starting with the 08-09 season. (?)

At the wrestling club golf outing a few months ago Cael pretty much thought that Duke wasn't going to be able to wrestle this year ... I'm guessing he is pretty pumped about getting him on the mat this year.
