I found this article by Bill Simmons to be a pretty good read. He breaks down Kevin Love's first 6 years in the League and talks a lot about him never playing in the playoffs.

One interesting section that made me think back to ISU (yes more Hoiberg to NBA talk; bear with me) was this section.
The following June, Kahn passed on 19-year-old Boogie Cousins for 23-year-old Wes Johnson with 2010’s no. 4 overall pick, then he spent 2011’s no. 2 overall pick on Derrick Williams (who played the same position as Love).
Kahn also gave Jefferson to Utah for two non-lottery picks; wasted valuable cap space on Brandon Roy, Martell Webster and Darko Milicic; and sacrificed a future no. 1 to dump Johnson’s contact so he could sign Andrei Kirilenko (who left a year later). And if that wasn’t enough, Rubio blew out HIS knee during a promising rookie campaign in 2012.

Of course, Kahn’s biggest screwup was not giving Love a five-year max extension in 2012 because he was saving it for … (wait for it) … Rubio.

Minnesota has one of the best players in the league (BS says top 12) and look at what they did to put players around him. Maybe Fred's relationship with Flip is strong enough that he would evenutally want to coach there, but how would anyone expect management to be competent enough to field a team? I realize hindsight on some of these guys (Wes!), but man some of these moves are bad.

Just another reason why everyone peeing their pants over Fred going back to Minny is overrated. He wanted out, he wanted to come coach ISU. He can still be friends with Flip and not work or coach there. Seems like he's more of a FLip guy than a T-Wolves guy.

Agree and I hope that it remains a great friendship for NBA ties reasons. Keep that as a selling point to the program.
I don't really get too nervous like some people, but I'll admit I would have been sweating a little if the whole Thibs to Memphis would have happend. I would think Chicago would be a tough job to turn down.
