Are any of you fellow CFer's joining me for the grandma's marathon this weekend in Duluth? I know Duluth puts on a pretty good party for this event, but I have never been there before. What are any of your plans for after the race?

If I live through it, I plan on getting pretty toasted after, and it would be cool to do that with some other fellow cyclones...

I did it about 10 years ago. Great flat and fast course that runs along the lake. Great local support.

The last thing on my mind after finishing was getting toasted but it was my first (and last) marathon.

well that is good news to hear... Yeah, who knows how i will feel after the race, but I plan to make the most of the experience because this will probably be the only marathon I run as well... kind of a bucket list thing, and at 23, I knew this would be the only time I would have the energy to try it.

I'm running the Mt. Evans Ascent which takes place on the same date. It's a 14.5 mile run, 14 of the 14.5 miles are uphill, and it finishes at an altitude of 14,200 feet. Last year the temperature at the finish was in the lower 20's and it was snowing. I'm hoping for warmer weather this Saturday.

that sounds horrible... after that, im sure a marathon on flat ground would be a piece of cake... where is Mount Evans?

Thumbs up for Duluth. It's one of my favorite cities.

Get some smoked fish from Russ Kendall's when you're up there.

Duluth is also one of my favorites, try to make it up there every couple of years. Smoked fish from just about anywhere up there is awesome.

Also if you make it to party that night and need some great hung over breakfast food the next day work your way up to Betty's Pies in two harbors.

I'll try and make it to those spots... thanks for the tips

+1 for Bettys pie shop. Try to go during off hours it gets really busy. Also plan on traffic being awful in Duluth, they have I35 tore up. Suggest getting a good map to navigate around it. We will be in Duluth in July for the Tall Ship event, then on to Grand Marais and the Gunflint Trail. Enjoy, Duluth and the Northshore are awesome.

Good Luck. I ran Grandmas 5 years ago and it was one of the best weekends in my life. I did muster up enough energy to "let loose" that night and would highly recommend Grandma's resturant for a post run meal. Enjoy the run!

I will try and do that... i was dreading this weekend, but from the sounds of it, it is a good marathon to run, and now im semi-looking forward to it.

The wifey is running in it and I will be there to support/drink! Been to Duluth many times and am ready to have a great time. I will try to represent ISU with a hat or shirt. Let's do this!
