I'm watching the Memphis/Houston game on ESPN and of all people to compliment Iowa State, it's Doug Gottlieb! After calling us "downright awful at times" against Bradley, he came back to say McDermott has us pointed in the right direction and talked about our first couple conference games. Then proceeded to mention how big McDermott's playbook is, and mention how he would never be able to remember that much stuff.

Nice to hear something positive about us from someone that has always presented us in a very negative light.

He said it to promote the Kansas game, I know, but still nice to hear on national T.V. I'm sure a lot of our recruits are watching.

The team did look bad against Bradley. Him and Dave Remsen both agreed that G-Mac would have the program rolling in a couple of years, when he had more of his own players.

I heard those comments too while I was flipping through channels a bit ago. Nice to hear, now let's give them some headlines come Saturday!!

ISU mentioned during Memphis/Houston Game

I was watching the Memphis/Houston game on ESPN when they ran a promo about Saturday's ESPN games. After they mentioned the Kansas/ISU game, Doug Gottlieb (doing the analysis for the Memphis Game and former Okie State guard) started talking about the improvement in ISU since the Bradley game. Then he made a comment about the fans in Ames:

"GREAT FANS WHO GET IT."

Thanks Doug!!

I wonder if Taggart heard it.

Re: ISU mentioned during Memphis/Houston Game

Who is taggart? How fast we forget, Jiri. His chance of playing very much on the Tiger team next year is not high.

He'll play...he is a superstar stud 4-star recruit! I don't think he needs to even practice because he's such a natural talent...or even bother playing defense. He's THAT good. :rolleyes5cz:

Man, can't we get off the kids back. After summer league there were many fans that were talking about Taggart as if he was going to be All American his freshmen year. He didn't have what it takes to play here under the new coach and went elsewhere. It has allowed Coach Mac to find others that are hopefully better fits for his system. Thanks him for his time and move on. Do we have to keep dragging every kid through the mud who ever left ISU?

Re: I'm with you puckwarrior

Its as though many of us have never made a decision that I regretted or changed when circumstances later changed. Taggart came to ISU because of Wayne and left when Wayne left. I don't begrudge him that. In fact, I don't think of him at all. Let's hear it for Wesley Johnson, he's a 4 star recruit in my book.

Re: ISU mentioned during Memphis/Houston Game

Taggart will be as good as he wants to be. I'm guessing that he's quickly figuring out that there is going to be hard work and rules in most decent D1 programs.

Personally, I would have loved to see him blossom at ISU, if he had bought into McDermott's system and philosophy. I think he had more tools and natural ability at his disposal than Jiri. Look what Jiri is starting to do.

I don't care that Taggart left Iowa State. Why can we criticize Jiri to no end but not Shawn Taggart who was a proven dud (at least last year)?

We can get all over one of our own but when a player (or coach) leaves, no one can ever say anything about them? That's ridiculous.

These guys are Division 1 atheletes that are getting a full-ride to play basketball. They are around the media, newspapers, etc. Why do we have to keep them in this "shell" by only saying good things about them.

Exactly! Let it go. Also, people need to calm down when players "dominate" in the Capital City league. It's pick-up basketball for crying out loud!!!! Okay, it's a little more organized than my church league, but still! I'm sure they run set plays and play a ton of defense.

Dang, I wish my church had a basketball league. :rofl8yi:
