I bought a couple student tickets to the ISU/Iowa basketball game on the Ticket Exchange Facebook group. Never done that before. Decided to message Athletics to see if I needed a student ID at the door. They said they oversell the student tickets and have turned some people away for Iowa games in the past.

We are driving from 2 hours away, trying to determine - when do we need to arrive so we're sure to get into the game?

So are you limited to the north doors for entrance? And what was the answer on needing a student ID? I'm guessing you'd want to be in line at least a hour before the game.

Last time Iowa came, there were empty seats still. General rule of thumb I noticed was if the line around the stadium (without tents) is complete around the arena, that’s when you should get nervous about not getting in. The south staircase is a good indicator of where you’ll probably be in the upper deck.

Yes, the north doors are the only doors for students or those with student tickets. You don’t need an ID if you have ticket. The ID is used for those who have the season tickets and they’re loaded onto their ID.

I may be wrong here, and if I had a printed student ticket, I would use the north doors reguardless. But, I think the reason they implemented this door policy is because those are the doors where they have the scanners capable of swiping the IDs. (Well that and it helps controll the stampede to an extent) If a person has a printed ticket with a barcode, they presumably could go in any door, as those scan just like any other ticket.

You still have to use the “student ticket scanners.” The barcodes are different than the other tickets and that’s just for crowd control reasons. Plus students are allowed in 30 minutes before general public.

An hour early is manageable for us. 3-4 hours early would not work. Frustrating to not have any access to tickets to big games accept for secondary market. Guys trying to sell top row for $100 a piece, so lucked out on a cheaper option.

As the other poster said, no ID needed. North doors only. Here’s the full response I got:

Men’s Basketball – We do not restrict anyone from sitting in the student section as long as they have a valid student section ticket. Because we oversell men’s basketball student tickets, the first 2,500 are allowed entry to games. In the last 6 years, we have only turned away students for two games which both happened to be the years we played Iowa. All student tickets need to be scanned in at the north entrance of Hilton Coliseum
