NFL: Gordon's year long suspension upheld

Well I'm sure the extension of Ray Rice's suspension is coming any day now then...

meh, the two situations are not comparable, imho. yes, Rice's suspension should have been longer, but Gordon's is defined by the CBA. This was his 3rd strike on drug offenses. It's pretty specifically spelled out that he gets a year for it.

That sound you heard was thousands of fantasy football owners who picked Josh Gordon in a late round releasing him.

Gordon is quite the repeat defender. Yes, the NFL screwed the Pooch on Rice, but they got this one right IMO.

a year for testing positive for something that's legal in a few states? You think they got that one right?

Was the CBA a new rule or something? Sorry but when it spells out consequences for doing something and you do it anyways you deserve what you get.

While there may be a justification in the CBA, you can't tell me that from an image perspective this is terrible for the NFL. 2 games for knocking out your wife, a season for getting caught with some weed a few times. Justified under the CBA? Maybe. A good look for the NFL? Nope.

its legality is not really an issue. Plenty of supplements that are perfectly legal for people to buy and consume are banned by the NFL's drug policy. Now, the NFL's drug policy may be overbearing and too strict, and perhaps it should be changed, but that doesn't changed the fact that Gordon knowingly and repeatedly violated it. The consequences are pretty clearly spelled out in the CBA. First offense is kept quiet. Second offense is 4 games. 3rd offense is a year. He knew all of that.

absolutely...he violated the policy last year, missed two games. Get's caught AGAIN and even before everything has settled, gets arrested for driving while impaired....the guy had it coming to him.

This. This isn't a discussion about whether you agree with the CBA or not. It's a discussion about Gordon being a moron.

Lavon Brazill and Daryl Washington might have something to say, if some sudden leniency were shown to Gordon in the wake of the Rice suspension. The Rice suspension was ridiculously mild, but it doesn't have anything to do with suspensions for repeated drug suspensions.

Yes, I agree that in totality, the NFL looks terrible about all of this...that being said, they will be king of TV ratings and money so I'm sure they don't care too much.

If I may play devils advocate for the sake of discussion here. Wouldn't it have looked worse for the NFL to not abide by their own rules.

Now the NFL just needs to add a section for how many games you get for beating the **** out of your significant other then we wouldn't have any of these comparisons. The real question is would that penalty be more or less than 1 year? I say less than because drugs are bad.

The Browns' 2014 draft does not look good so far. If they knew the **** was about to hit the fan with Josh Gordon, they could have stayed put and taken Sammy Watkins or passed on Johnny Manziel for the top WR's left on the board late in the first round. Now they go into the season with an offense that looks punchless.
