My Playhouse
We lost 4 NFL players and an experienced o-line and are looking at a Big 12 title if it weren't for

- A freshman kicker missing a 37, 38, and 45 yard field goals against Kansas.
- A 25-year old, 7th year Senior whiffing an easy sack, leading to an 81 yard TD pass against Kansas State
- An NFL caliber receiver dropping an easy pass against Texas
- Another quality receiver dropping a TD pass against Oklahoma State

And none of that includes some inexcusable coaching on our offensive staff, a pathetic excuse for special teams, and the officials handing Baylor 45 yards on certified ******** penalties.

I'm incredibly frustrated because we COULD be (one could argue SHOULD be) at worst, 8-2 right now. I mock Nebraska for thinking their program needs 9-win coaches or they should be fired, and I refuse to be that guy. ****, most of us last offseason were saying we're a rare university he could go 3-9 for a year or two and not worry at all. He frequently talks about how he's more proud and impressed with this team than any team he's worked with before, and while it's frustrating, I see where he's coming from. This offense is young. They've been put in positions to win, and they haven't executed. But again, they're young. As long as he's around, I trust he will make the right corrections next year and I believe we can see the same success we saw the last 3-4 years. Go State.

I'll say it again...

The thing I hate the most is that people keep pointing to a dropped pass in 3-4 games as the reason we lost. But when those same teams were giving up 30-50 pts a game and we were limited to 10-14 pts with a lights out defense, that's masking 99% of the problems.

You can point to excuses but this is building on what was a horrible season last year considering we had the best talent we've ever had at 3/4ths of our positions. There is more wrong than plays here or there considering how horrible the defenses have been that we've gone up against.

The o line is young?

Situational awareness is awful with this team, I’ve seen too many 3rd and four passes thrown two yards deep and the receiver instead of planting and driving upfield for first, run sideways and back 2-3 and then drive forward for 2. It’s obvious a hot blitz is coming but no receiver (outside of X) goes to the void created). Things like that also show little coaching problems. We are sloppy it seems.

Completely agree. My argument would be DESPITE the incompetence, we are only a dropped catch away from winning games.

I'd be interested in seeing PPG given up in Big12 play vs what we score for the teams we play.

Yeah, again, any physical mistake is so amplified when you make 2 mental mistakes each play at times. In addition a physical mistake is amplified because the score is so low because we have a historic defense.

Its not one thing, it's a missed block one okay, poor effort or lack of focus the next, bad timing, bad throw, dropped pass, miscommunication the next. It's everything. And it's organization as well.

What you are describing is a great ISU defense and an absolutely inept offense

Very true. I just think the problems are so much bigger that it's hard to focus on a play here or there. We should have won several of these games by 20+ with the way our D was playing and the D's we were up against.

I bolded what doesn’t have any merit. The online is pretty much the same and if the online is so experienced, they why are the still making all the fundamental mistakes? Why can’t they get any push when it’s needed? Why are there wiffs over and over? That all come down to coaching not developing any of the players.

Campbell is definitely overrated and getting way too much slack for what appears to be a fluke COVID season. It's turning out that his ceiling isn't really any higher than anyone else we've brought in.

What really pi**** me is the inept hoks had less than 150 yards offense today against wisky...and they won by 2 touchdowns. We had twice the yards but 5 turnovers. Woof.

The Big 10 West is worse than the MAC. But we’ll see this again in the Big 10 “title” game

The thing I find concerning are that his first game at ISU (Loss to UNI) was a debacle full of game management and preparation issues. Many freaked out at the time but chalked it up to first game as a P5 coach jitters. Most of those issues still exist.

By no means am I advocating to get rid of Campbell. But agree with you on what I think the ceiling now is.

This mentality stinks. This program underachieved last year and is bad this year - you can play the what-if game but 10 games in you are what you are. Build Heacock a ******* statue. Defense is the best defense in the history of the program.

Offense is another story, completely incompetent. O line has plenty of experience. Top 2 receivers back from last year. The scheme sucks, the o line is a weakness every year, and Dekkers is not a Big 12 starting caliber QB right now. All of these things are developmental issues in the program. The offense has underperformed for years and the defense has bailed them out for years.

Campbell needs to make changes at OC and O line coach this off-season, end of story.
