I thought Jiri and Garrett were the stars of the game. It is hard to see why Peterson plays more minutes than Garrett. I thought Brackins played with a lot of energy but he needs to slow down, not shoot so early in the clock. He is going to be very good. Wesley Johnson has a very smooth game. You guys certainly have a go to player when he is healthy.

As for the Hawks, I like our young guys - Kelly, Cole and Peterson. I thought Peterson struggled today, particularly when Garrett put pressure on him. Our bigs, particularly Looby and Gorney are frustrating. One would think that seniors would have more poise and desire. This is going to be a long year, particularly after a long fall with the football team.

I think both basketball programs are headed in the right direction with good young players and good coaches.

I would have liked to have seen what Iowa could have done with Freeman, as ISU basically played defense giving up penetration, with the overplay man to man, but they knew that Iowa could not hurt them...

Then again, if Brackins had made half of his point blank misses, that had to be close to seven or eight, it might not have mattered even then.

I was hoping Freeman would play just for entertainment value. Without him the Hawks are about as good as a top 5-10 JUCO team.

Couldn't agree more! I really don't understand why Iowa didn't pressure the ball out on the perimeter. Our offense looked soooooo much more in synch today and I really think it shows that McDermott's offense is very good when run correctly, pressuring bad ball handlers just disrupts the timing of everything. Great win and I thank lickliter for not watching tape of our first 7 games and refusing to pressure our gaurds.

Can't wait until we have gaurds good enough to beat pressure so our offense looks that in synch all the time.

Iowa missed Freeman a lot today and I was surprisingly impressed with their freshmen. Cole's strong inside, Kelly is a skilled offensive player, and peterson looks decent. No superstars, but solid players to build around.

Agreed, Good game!

I'm out of the loop - why did Freeman not play?

He broke his foot earlier this year. First game was against UNI the other night.

Like others have said, he probably came back too soon and played too much the other night.

Lickliter seems a class act...I don't like the Hawkeyes, but he is not cut from the same mold. Refreshing.

Kelly is going to be a great player, but the new Iowa PG Peterson is aweful. Ive seen him play several times now and he does NOTHIGN to get his teammates involved and is a TO factory.

How in the world can a decent guy like him take that job? You have to feel sorry for him not knowing what he was walking into.

So Lickliter is criticizing lack of Hawks fan support? Hey, this is Iowa basketball in Big Ten, not the Big 12.
