I know there's bound to be quite a few golfers out there on CF. I'm Looking into maybe getting into a league at work for fun. I've been golfing off an on for a few years and am by no means very good (usually shoot high 50's on 9 holes).

The golf clubs I've been using are just a pieced together hand-me down set I got from a friend and I'm kind of wanting to get a new set now that I'm out of college with some disposable income. I'm not looking to spend a ton of money, max budget is probably $350 to $400 for a complete set driver through putter.

I've been looking at the Adams Tight Lies sets as well as Wilson Pro Staff's. Have a friend who plays the Tight Lies and I like them quite a bit, but wasn't sure if there was something better out there for the money.

Any suggestions?

Just get a cheap starter set online or at some place like Walmart. I see hacks buying 300 dollar clubs all the time and its a waste of money. Expensive clubs won't make you better, no matter what anyone says. I am also a hack and got a full set of rip off Titlest clubs on Ebay many years ago and they are good enough for me. Don't over spend if you just want to have a good time whacking the ball around on your local course.

My son loves these:

That's been pretty much my thought too. I just threw out my absolute max budget, but I'm all for spending less.

Ebay will be your friend then. You can get full sets of Irons for less than a hundred bucks or so. Don't shell out a lot of money for clubs just to have a good time with your buddies, its pointless.

You can probably put together a nice set of used clubs within your budget just by using E-bay or going to golf show. Agree spending more is silly, but I still do it

When I first upgraded, I started with a set of irons and then added my woods and putter later on. I think there is a world of difference between starter sets and nicer clubs.

Not really unless you want to have a **** measuring contest. The average weekend warrior will see no benefit in paying more for clubs. And balls for that matter.

Tight Lies sets are great for beginners or weekend warrior golfers and they're not too expensive . If you're going the used/Ebay route make sure you get irons that are cavity back, pretty much all beginner sets are. They will offer the most forgiveness (aka, the sweet spot is bigger) and you'll still get decent shots out of miss hits. Other than that, just stay far away from blades.

Buy used from an authorized seller. Can pretty much get most clubs for a fraction of the new cost. I'm left handed and got pretty much a full set of irons, 2 hybrids, and a driver for 275 dollars all in. Mostly Taylor Made. Just have to be careful who you buy from, lots of knock offs.
