So after a short stint out of state, I've landed an engineering job in good ol' Iowa! Yep, that means I can start going to games again, will be able to watch my Cyclones on TV again, and will be able to enjoy the general order of things of being in Iowa again!

wOOt!

(sorry, it made my day. Had to share - esp. with all the doom and gloom from who's leaving/might be leaving/holding the sky up)

lol. oops. how do i move this out of the basketball thread?

Congrats!
As much as i hate Iowa weather and don't want to live here when i get out of school, a part of me still wants to stay here so i can keep going to all of the ISU athletic events...

I told the wife we need to live in Ankeny instead of the west side of Des Moines so I can get to Ames easier:)

Good to hear you've made it back to Iowa. I've always wanted to do that myself, but there aren't that many engineering jobs in my field in Iowa. What kind of engineering work do you do?

I'm jealous. I've been searching for a job in DSM since September and have had no luck. Interviews yes. Offers no.

I think jobs in IA are pretty difficult to find - no matter what. I was lucky with this one - had an offer on the table for South Carolina that I was going to take until this opened up at the last minute. I'm an Ag. Engineer (working more as an environmental engineer).....and taking classes part time to get another MS in chem eng. online through KState. Yep, glad to be going back! (and had almost given up on the idea)

I am an Ag Eng as well working in Ankeny. I have a house in Roland for sale if you are interested - ~15 minutes from JTS/Hilton and access to Football and BB tickets that are sometimes available. Interested in living in Roland?

We are actually thinking of leaving Iowa and one of the only reasons I really want to stay is to go to games. I have already had a chance to live in Florida, Texas, Illinois, etc but now the wife is jealous because she has lived in Iowa her whole life and wants to expereince more before we start having kids...

It actually is nicer for ISU games. Especially living in the far North end of Ankeny. Close to the Elkhart exit. 25 minutes from the parking lot to my driveway.

You want to stay in Iowa....these aren't the droids you're looking for.

My wife and I moved to North Carolina 11 yrs ago May. Moved down the day after graduation. We didn't think we would be here more than a few months. Hard to leave when it was 77 yesterday and you got snow in Iowa. It gets harder every year as my kids want to see grandparents more and more. I would agree that it is very hard to find good jobs in Iowa. I am in the ag industry and looked last year for almost 9 months. The difference is pay is not worth the move.

Having spent some amount of time in Florida, you do NOT want to live there. Sure there are some nice areas, but the vast majority of Florida is absolute crap. I love visiting, but you could't pay me enough to live there. (ok, you could pay me to live in Destin)

WHAT? I lived there for 17 years and loved it. Lived in Gainesville, Longwood (near Orlando) and Ponte Vedra. I would definately move back to Gainesville and Ponte Vedra... Where did you live that gave you such a bad impression...

Half of the fastest growing metro areas in Top Ten are in Texas, the new Gateway to Attraction. Florida and California and Arizona are less popular than before. Illinois? I would stay in Iowa.
