I was just looking at the recruiting list from CR.com.

There are 21 Recruits on the list, of those:

8 From Texas
5 From Florida
3 From Iowa
1 From Oklahoma
1 From Louisiana
1 From North Dakota
1 From Minnesota
1 From Missouri

I just thought it was interesting that this seems to verify that Chizik and Co. are recruiting Texas and Florida pretty heavily, most of this would probably seem pretty obvious considering the backgrounds the staff has, but it is nice to see we are getting some good players from outside of Iowa.
 
I like the fact that Chizik is targeting Florida and Texas hard but in some respects it seems he's forgoing the northern states a bit much if you ask me...
 
is this different than the past? I mean there are lots of TX and FL kids that have suited up or signed with ISU in the past 12 years.

I would like to see the comparison before saying this it great.

Here in 08 - So far we have 14 recruits from the F/T/O area out of 21.
In 07 - Mac/Chizik signed 10 recruits from the F/T/O area out of 25.
In 2006 - Mac signed 15 recruits from the Florida/Texas/Oklahoma area out of 30
In 2005 - Mac signed 9 recruits from the Florida/Texas/Oklahoma area out of 27
In 2004 - Mac signed 7 recruits from the F/T/O area out of 29
In 2003 - Mac signed 11 recruits from the F/T/o area out of 26
In 2002 - Mac signed 6 recruits from the F/T/O area out of 27
Mac also had 8 recruits from California

Seems to me just looking at the Florida, Texas, and Oklahoma area that there is a larger portion the previous years. Mac hit those areas fairly decent, but I think Chizik is going harder in these areas then Mac did.

Chizik also has signed a kicker, something Mac never did.
 
I'd like to see ISU/Chizik go after the Chicago/Northern Illinois area - stop conceeding those players to Iowa. There's a lot of talent in Illinois in general, which is why ND recruits well in Chicago and such... I think there's untapped potential for players there, and it's only 5.5 hours to downtown Chicago from Ames, so definitely "close" to home for players too!

I do not disagree about recruiting players from Illinois but it will be harder with U of Ill recently becoming a bigger player in their own state. Illinois is obviously big 10 country and all of the big 10 school recruits there, much like all of the Big 12 schools recruit Texas. The kids in Ill prob grow up wacthing big 10 games and Texas kids grew up watching Big 12 games. If you can not go to the school of your choice why not go to the school of your choice competion. I would venture to say that every school in the Big 12 has more players from Texas on their roster than any other state other than their own. Also I would bet that with U of Ill and ND that Iowa will not get the type of player they have gotten out of Ill in the past.
 
I've always wondered why we don't go after more kids from surrounding states, ie Minnesota, Illinois, Missouri. I know that the talent and numbers in Texas and Florida are far greater, but isn't there some Midwest talent we could go after and use the location as the pitch, NCAA 08 style.
 
Sad fact but the midwest just does not have the guys to make it worthwhile trying to make inroads against IL and ND in Chicago. Mosts states max have 10 recruits each year that have D1 talent. Texas and Florida produce 100's each year. Geographically those kids can play football year round, they're just more ready to step in D1 teams.
