:yes:How about a shout out for Gene Smith for hiring BF to coach the Twister Sisters. The trend was then and still is to hire female head women coaches. Just think if Gene Smith would of passed on BF. Would the womens program be still drawing 200 fans to the games and finishing at the bottom of the Big 12 on a regular basis.:yes:

Not likely. Gene is originally from Ohio and this is a real plum job and they have a huge athletic budget. Gene had a knack for hiring the right person most of the time. BF, Mac, TF, LE. All of them experienced major successes during their tenure. No one is going to bat 1000 percent and I'm sure someone will point out a hire or two that did not work out.Any chance Gene Smith would give up Ohio State to come back to Ames?

Gene is one of my favorite AD's. He made some great hires. I don't think he did much for out athletic budget however. The guy would always respond when I e-mailed him(JP has been very good too for that matter.)
He had as much to do with BF's success as he has had to do with most of the negatives his detractors will very quickly point out.
Except for the fact that he hired the coaches that oversee our programs right now.
