Cyclones.com has a good Q&A with Gene Chizik regarding the recruiting process under way.

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State head football coach Gene Chizik sat down to talk recruiting. Signing day is Feb. 6.

i love the approach of going for guys who will be around for 4 years instead of 2-3. people just need to be patient when you go with that approach, but it works out better in the end. by the way, is anyone sure if bo williams is gonna have 3 or 4 years left after the transfer year? i have heard both so im curious cuz it sounds like he's got serious potential

no, he has to sit a transfer year, the question is that he got hurt in the spring of his freshman year and is trying to get a medical hardship for that and then use is redshirt for his transfer year. that would give him 09,10,11,12 as a cyclone, assuming he gets the hardship

Essentially instead of counting last year as eligible and only have 3 years left, you count it as a medical year and then he gets 4 years.

Call be biased, but the way the Lucca thing went, I have a feeling that we wont get our wishes granted.

I will say that its great to see a kid willing to put in the time and wait before ever hitting the field. The sterotype a lot with these players is play now or nothing. To have someone willing and knowing that they have to wait a year because of the transfer and still want to come to his university I think says a lot of his character.

good point but the NCAA owes us one after giving us the shaft on lucca but they probably will give him 3 yrs.

The NCAA will probably give him two years and then rule him ineligible for the Big XII championship because they didn't realize his actual name was "Johnny."

I like the transition to more 4 year guys rather than junior college. I also like his in home approach there, he feels he doesn't need to sell the school, because 9 times out of 10, they already know. I think he makes recruiting a more personal thing and wants kids to know all their needs will be met in college.

exactly we deserve it cuz lucca could have been crucial to this years team but if williams is what he's talked up to be he may just be gone after 2-3yrs for the NFL anyways. the amount of buzz around this guy is awesome, i just hope it pans out

This aticle reminds me of the last episode of Friday Night Lights. Thinking back to that, and hearing Chizik's response, I do like his approach as well. I'm no expert, but I think that theory is the best thing going for us right now.
Yeah, the NCAA will probably give us a "make-up call"

Reminds me of that one commercial.

yea i know the subway haha, thats a good commercial but we deff. deserve it

Could Bo be thinking of some "hardship" that caused a transfer similar to our linebacker (who had already transferred from MSU to us) that transfered to South Florida last year and played for them this year?

I read an article in a Florida paper about him transferring, and he was quoted that he was leaving so he could play in a power running system.

that one haha.

but yea tyrone mckenize just was a different situation. williams tore an ACL in spring ball at florida and sat the whole season so he could get the medical hardship year and still have 4 years eligibility and a redshirt. that means he could redshirt his transfer year which still leaves him with 4 seasons of college football. it could be weird having a 24-25 year old running back as a senior, but hey if he helps win im all for it

Remembered reading in the GC article that he starts talking to kids when they Jrs.--- as I was reading today about Jim Tressell making a home visit on a kid in St. Paul who is a soph. We have a probably 4 star OT that is 150 miles up the road and we are already a year behind Ohio St. with this kid.
